When he left Armenia in 1996, Karakhanyon stayed in contact with the national team coaches and judges and was a judge for Armenia at the 2006 World Championships.
By 2011 he was the head of the Armenian delegation at the Olympic qualifying championships for the 2012 London Olympics, and it was there he first saw Gebeshian, who was competing for Armenia because of her dual citizenship. …
