Washington 196.925 v 194.100 Seattle Pacific

This was my first visit to Hec Edmundson Pavilion, host of an upcoming Regional Championships. (Apr 1st).

“I’m so proud of this team,” said head coach Elise Ray. “All week, they trained with the intention of giving everything they had for their seniors. Last night was the same: they competed with full hearts for their incredible senior class. It was a special night. Though we attained our second highest score of the season, the team is hungry for more, I can see it in their eyes.” …

The new coaching staff at Washington look to be doing a terrific job. Congratulations.

Hailey Burleson is even better LIVE than on YouTube. So tall, so slim. And extremely confident.

Hailey was easily winning the AA after 3 apparatus. Then – shockingly – she under-rotated a punch front on Floor to end up with 9.20.

Washington would like a do-over on Vault. Not their best day. But Beam (49.425) was very impressive. I thought they stuck 6/6 dismounts — but the announcer stated it was 5/6.

Some of those Beam routines would have scored .05 to .10 higher if they were from one of the top 6 teams.

Can Washington qualify for Nationals? Definitely, though I wouldn’t bet the mortgage. Vault is not at all top 10 in the NCAA. Nor is tumbling.

In fact I appreciated the (Division 2) Seattle Pacific tumbling and vault equally. (This was a season-high for the Falcons by 1.50. And their 7th highest score in history.)

It was seniors night. A touching tribute for these ladies.

the history of Jazzercise

You’ll think this is a Saturday Night Live skit.

Not so. This was a real TV show in 1982. 🙂

Click PLAY or watch it on Facebook.

Judi Sheppard Missett began what would evolve into Jazzercise as a student at Northwestern University. Sheppard Missett was teaching at a dance studio and noticed her classes had high dropout rates. Realizing students were attending for physical fitness and not to become highly technically proficient in dance, Shepard Missett began to hold “just for fun” classes that began with a jazz warmup. These classes were eventually renamed “Jazzercise.”
