Twisting Dismounts from Rings
M.R. (Fred) Yeadon is Emeritus Professor of Computer Simulation in Sport at Loughborough University.
Though never a gymnast, Fred came right into the Gym when he taught in my city and worked with gymnasts on twisting dismounts.
Here’s one of his early research papers.
At the 1992 Olympic Games six full twisting double somersault dismounts were recorded with two video cameras during the rings individual apparatus finals in the men’s Artistic Gymnastics competition.
Angles describing body configuration were determined from video data and were input, together with initial orientation angle values and angular momentum components, into a computer simulation model of aerial movement.

Great Britain defends European Team Title
One of the best TEAM FINALS I’ve ever seen.
European Gymnastics:
An exciting final kept the Zagreb crowd on the edge of their seats until the very last routine, with Harry Hepworth’s performance on Floor ultimately securing the victory for Great Britain.
The reigning European champions, Great Britain successfully defended their title in Zagreb. Their performances on Rings and Vault gave them a strong advantage, led by Harry Hepworth (14.566 and 14.533) and Courtney Tulloch (14.300 and 14.100). On Parallel Bars, Joe Fraser helped his team maintain its lead with a score of 14.200.
World Gymnastics 2 eventually claimed second place on the podium. Dukhno, who won silver in the All-Around earlier this week, delivered particularly strong performances on Floor (14.466), Vault (14.300) and Parallel Bars (14.166), while his teammate Daniel Marinov also impressed with a score of 14.466 on Vault.
Switzerland completed the podium in third place. Thanks in particular to some very strong performances on Vault, including Florian Langenegger’s 14.066, they secured the bronze medal to round off a successful team final.
