Félix is the most astonishing gymnast in Canada right now. One of the best gymnasts in the world for his age.

Of all the amazing things I saw him do this time around, his drilled Kasamatsu with 2 twists vault in podium training was best. For once coach Adrian Balan was speechless. Nothing to correct.

Working toe point.

Rosie MacLennan, Jason Burnett CDN Champions

You’ll see both again in Rio.

The King City, Ont., trampolinist finished the competition Friday with a total score of 157.295, well clear of silver-medallist Samatha Smith’s 150.310. Samantha Sendel finished bronze with a total score of 150.245.

MacLennan is the reigning Olympic champion and was the only Canadian to strike gold at the 2012 London Games. She will again compete for Canada at the upcoming Games in Rio de Janeiro. She also won gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto and was the 2013 world champion in individual competition.

Jason Burnett, the 2008 Olympic silver medallist, won the men’s competition with a total score of 161.375 while upcoming star Trevor Stirling finished second with 157.425. Keegan Soehn was third. …

Isabela Onyshko is Canadian Champion

A very strong finals competition. Congratulations to all the Seniors who competed in the Olympic trial.

Isabela’s 15.10 Beam was one of the very best Beam routines I’ve seen over the past several years. (Canadian judges have never been accused of over-scoring at home.)

Most consider Bela and Ellie locks. The Olympic team will be built around them.

Like other nations with depth, there are multiple scenarios with resulting team scores very close together.

Therefore the most consistent gymnasts are most likely to get the call. Especially the lead off Beam and Bar routines in qualifications.

I understand 12 gymnasts will be invited to the final trial in Quebec end of the month. And I’m happy I’m not a selector. 🙂

Go Canada!

#GymCdnChamps Finals preview

Lauren Hopkins:

2012 Olympian Ellie Black, the 20-year-old from Halifax who has lead her Canadian team so strongly all quad, will compete in tonight’s all-around final at the 2016 Canadian Championships, hoping to earn her fourth national title in a row. …

The competition will be tough this year, however, with 17-year-old Isabela Onyshko right on her heels. Onyshko has been on fire all year, upgrading and consistently hitting routines to win the senior titles at Elite Canada and Gymnix early on before also snagging the silver medal at the Stuttgart World Cup. …

Black Will Fight For Fourth National All-Around Title

Finals go Friday night.

Ellie is not close to 100%. She was super happy to finish the prelims meet so successfully.

Rose-Laying Woo is back to about 90% healthy. She’s had a sore back for months. Doctor says she should be completely pain free in about a month.

All eyes will be Shallon Olsen, the favourite on Vault. She’s been competing DTY for years. Hoping to upgrade in this Final.
