Kaylia Nemour – African Champ 2023

This will qualify her to compete at Worlds 2023. There she could qualify for Olympics Paris.

New skill on Bars.

CAN Nationals MAG – day 2 results UPDATE

There was a fair bit of confusion at Awards for the Sr. Men. Confusion at the scoring table. Confusion for the athletes. Many were uncertain whether the two Sr. Age groups would have separated apparatus medals — or combined for the two groups. This post has been edited.

Unfortunately the Canadian Men’s team to continental championships flew to Medallin, Columbia just before the second session of Nationals.

Highest priority is for the Men to qualify there to Worlds 2023 in Belgium.

With most of the A-team gone, Kenji Tamane is named Canadian Champion Senior age-21+ 2023 based on combined scores. He was on the 2022 Worlds team.

Of the older Senior group, Kenji had the highest Floor score. Ioannis Chronopoulos ranked 1st on Pommels and H Bar. No surprise, Chris Kaji top Rings. Quinlan Perron highest Vault. Evgeny Siminiuc highest P Bars.

It’s great to have Tokyo Olympian René Cournoyer back competing some apparatus after injury — though he’s still not doing dismounts.

An interesting and competitive competition with Felix, William, and the PAGU team out of contention.

Full results.

Canada awards Seniors under age-21 separately based on combined scores. Smart. Guys who should be preparing for future quadrennials.

Kai Iwaasa had the best Floor of the young seniors, an amazing routine. Jayson Rampersad highest Pommels, as usual. Evan Fedder, son of Canadian great Danny Fedder top Rings score. Trentin Milligan highest Vault. Noah Royer showed some of the best P Bar swing in the competition. World class. Patrick Talbot great H Bar.

Another fun competition with many in medal contention.

After the competition, I told Patrick’s coach Nick Blanton that if I had a son — I’d send him to train at Nick’s Fundy Gymnastics Club, Saint John, New Brunswick. Population 70,000. Everyone at Nationals would agree that Nick’s gymnasts were best prepared to hit routines with quality.

CAN Nationals MAG – day 1

Canada’s goal is to qualify a full team to the Paris Olympics. Top 12 at Worlds 2023.

The have a good talent pool to choose from. Zach Clay’s 14.350 Pommels is a BIG number for this team.

Paris Olympics – Pride House

The Pride House is designed to be a welcoming and inclusive space and will be in operation throughout the period of next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.

… gender equality, diversity and equal opportunities …

Pride House has been launched alongside the Fair-Play Association, which aims to promote fair play, inclusion, equality and respect for people in sport regardless of gender, sexual orientation, expression or gender identity. …

Olympic ideals. Racists and homophobes should stay away.

Kaylia Nemour to African Championships

One of the best Bars workers in the worldsfrom France — had been blocked from qualifying for the Olympics — in France. By France.

Merde.

Born in Saint-Benoît-la-Forêt, France, to a French mother and an Algerian father, Kaylia has finally been cleared to represent Algeria at African Championships 2023.

FIG running out the clock on RUS

I don’t want Russian gymnasts competing in the Paris Olympics.

YES it’s rotten for Russian athletes who don’t support Putin’s war, if there are any.

But banning Russia totally is the least bad scenario for 2024.

FIG President Morinari Watanabe echoed the IOC position that Russians should be allowed to compete as independents, as they did in Tokyo. I disagree.

If any Russians compete in Paris all headlines will be about that controversial decision, degrading the actually Olympic ideals for the nations of the world that did not invade their neighbours.

AND it looks like FIG will continue to delay a final decision until it’s too late for them to be included.

International Gymnastics Federation postpones decision on re-admitting Russia until July

Anastasia Bachynska’s father killed

Anastasia Bachynska is the 2019 European Games floor exercise champion, the 2021 European balance beam bronze medalist, and the 2018 Youth Olympic all-around and floor exercise bronze medalist.

She was also a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2020 European Championships.

HOW does FIG expect Ukraine to compete against independent Russian athletes at the Paris Olympics?

I support a ban on all RUS athletes in FIG and IOC events until Putin withdraws his army. Russia invaded Ukraine. Ukraine did not invade Russia.

Jade Carey at OSU through 2024

Jade has decided to train for Paris while simultaneously staying at University.

Jade is cool.

I have a lot of faith in both Jade Carey and OSU. My best guess is that this will work.

Hashimoto Daiki wins All Japan. Again.

The Olympic Champion competed despite suffering a lower-back stress fracture and twisted right ankle.

He didn’t need to compete as he’d already qualified for the World Championships in Antwerp from 30 September to 8 October.

Recall Kohei won this meet 10 times in a row from 2008 to 2017.
