Wendy Bruce’s coach Kevin Brown

1992 Olympian Wendy Bruce trained at Brown’s Gymnastics under Kevin and Rita Brown.

Wendy:

I ran down the podium stairs, I ran past Steve, I ran past Bela, I ran past my team, I ran all the way to the end of the arena and right into the arms of MY coach.

All the years of training, all the tears, all the anxiety and emotion, all the uncertainty, and all of the work was all worth it. Everything Mr. Brown had worked for in his life had finally been accomplished. It was all over and it all went our way. For the first time in a long time everything worked out. I hit all of my routines. I had the best competition of my life and it was in the Olympics. We both couldn’t have asked for more. …

Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast, Australia

Durban, South Africa lost the 2022 Commonwealth Games due (partly) to an incompetent, corrupt federal Government. But I’ve little doubt that the 2022 will be soon awarded to another city. Either Liverpool, Birmingham or Manchester.

Canadian sport funding increased

I admire the USA for NOT relying on tax dollars for funding.

In most nations National Teams rely on the inconsistent whims of federal governments. Canada’s high performance athletes will get 18% more in direct financial support.

In his 2017 budget, Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced the government would increase funding allocated to the Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) by $5 million dollars a year, the first increase in 13 years. …

Maggie Nichols – best Collegiate gymnast 2017

Last July, millions around the country watched USA Gymnastics name its five-member Rio-bound Olympic team and three alternates. While the celebration in front of the adoring crowd at the Olympic trials involved selfies, confetti, media appearances and the realization of a lifelong dream come true for eight women, it marked a devastating conclusion for Maggie Nichols. She’d helped lead the U.S. team to gold at the world championships less than a year before, and even won an individual silver medal on floor. But on that day, her name wasn’t called. She remained in the locker room.

Three days later, Nichols made the difficult decision to retire from elite gymnastics….

Since bursting onto the NCAA scene as a member of the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in January …
