Sarah Finnegan wins 2019 AAI Award
Finnegan is the third gymnast in school history to win the award, which is given to the top senior gymnast in the country and considered the Heisman Trophy of the sport. …
The winner is voted on by the nation’s coaches and considered the highest honor of women’s gymnastics. Finnegan joins NCAA Champions Ashleigh Gnat and Susan Jackson as the winners in school history. …
Jerry Reighard fired
Central Michigan University has terminated the employment of gymnastics coach Jerry Reighard, following an investigation that confirmed repeated disregard for the independent role of medical staff in addressing student-athlete injuries.
The latest incident, in February, involved Reighard attempting to influence a student to lie about or cover up concussion symptoms. A 121-page investigation report from CMU Faculty Personnel Services cites “egregious misconduct” by Reighard in attempting to undermine the university’s concussion management plan.
CMU will be searching for a new Head Coach.
Mark Williams’ secret
“People want to know the secret of Oklahoma gymnastics, the secret of Mark Williams,” said Guard Young, who competed for Williams on the U.S. National Team from 2000 to 2004. “Well, it’s just that the guy is a workhorse. His work ethic is second to none.”
