R.I.P coach Eugene Galperin

Brad Peters:

It is with great sadness to say that we have lost the greatest gymnastics coach, technician , mentor of our time.

He made a huge impact on all of us in this sport, world wide.

From the Soviet Union, Canada, Korea, USA and other countries his techniques and training methods created Olympic Gold medalist Kyle Shewfelt and Olympic Team members Brad Peters, Lorne Bobkin and a long long list of highly successful coaches who studied his methods.

He was so passionate and was also a wonderful human being who cared about the well being of his athletes first above everything.

I will miss him.

He will be missed.

Thank you Eugene for everything you gave to us.

Yuri Titov interview

Three-time Olympian and former president of the FIG Yuri Titov turned 85 in November. He gave an interview to TASS on this occasion and talked about his career and the current generation of Russian gymnasts. …

Titov won Olympic gold as a part of the 1956 Soviet team and multiple silver and bronze medals but never the all-around gold:

“Talking about the Olympics, I consider myself somewhat a loser. At my first Games in 1956 in Melbourne, I got injured a few hours before the opening ceremony. …

Titov opposed both the 1980 and 1984 boycotts.

Ah, back in the day.

When FloGymnastics posted this to YouTube, free for all, I was keen to see if it included Gabby’s Bars double twisting double layout.

It’s not there.

That was a FUN skill she worked if and when she got through the Bars workout with time remaining.

Double Olympic Champ Rosie MacLennan

IOC posted a terrific interview with Rosie. She’ll be contending for Gold medal #3 in Tokyo

“Dave (Ross) and I talked about routines after Rio, and he was like, ‘I just want to see you do cool things, whatever about the medals’.

That brings the joy again,” said MacLennan, who will compete in the Japanese capital 81 years after her grandfather was denied a place at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1940 by the outbreak of the Second World War.
