Willie Weiler wins 1963 PanAms

We were reminded of the great Wilhelm Weiler when FΓ©lix Dolci won the AA at the 2023 PanAm Games.

He was the 1st Canadian MAG winner at PanAms since Willie at the 4th Pan-American Games, SΓ£o Paulo 1963.

We remember the name from the Weiler on H Bar and Bars.

R.I.P. Vladimir Markelov

The great Vladimir Markelov is almost exactly my own age.

Dead far too soon. Age-66.

It does seem many former Russian gymnasts die young.

He was a 1976 and 1980 Olympian for the Soviet Union.

His name is remembered for the Markelov release on Bars and H Bar.

It was pointed out to me that in 2021, life expectancy at birth for women in Russia was about 74.77 years, while life expectancy at birth for men was about 64.21 years on average.

Putin’s kleptocracy seems to be bad for citizen’s health.

NEW H Bar dismount – Hayden 1/1

At PanAms, Costa Rican gymnast, AndrΓ©s Valverde, used what you might call Double Layout over the bar with double twist.

A single twist is named for Dan Hayden.

The Valverde is a dismount I’ve never seen before. Should be a new element in the Code of Points.

Note – AndrΓ©s competed in Santiago only 7 months after Achilles surgery.
