It has something to do with the differences between the right and left sides of your brain.

related – Bill Sands’ study of 171 high level WAG gymnasts indicated that right hand first on roundoff gymnasts tend to twist to the right in the air. Left hand first gymnasts tend to twist left. That means the majority are able to compete Kasamatsu vault. (A minority would compete the more difficult Tsukahara full.)
In Men’s Artistic that percentage is even higher. Certainly well over 90% of male gymnasts can do Kasamatsu.

… Andrei Rodionenko says that the Russian government has not set the team a medal winning target, but that they hope to match their medal tally from London four years ago – eight in total across MAG and WAG. Considering the waning fortunes of the women’s team, the men will probably be expected to provide a greater proportion of gymnastics medals than they did in London – but, of course, the competition is much deeper than WAG, so this may present problems.
