Happy Birthday Ágnes Keleti

100 years young.

Ágnes Keleti is the oldest surviving Olympic champion, having won 10 medals for Hungary in gymnastics at the Helsinki 1952 and Melbourne 1956 Games, including five golds …

What makes Keleti’s sporting distinction even more impressive is that she did not get an opportunity to compete in the Olympics until she was 31, with the Second World War having put paid to the proposed 1940 and 1944 Games and injury having cruelly robbed her of the chance to take part in the London Games of 1948. …

Meet director Jerit Pogue was interviewed on the gymnasticsville podcast about the meet and the future of American men’s gymnastics.

A professional series of competitions is needed in future — something like the German Bundesliga. Top gymnasts there can earn as much as $30,000 for the season plus expenses.

Larisa Iordache’s story

My biggest problem have been injuries. I’ve had six surgeries so far. …

The most beautiful competition was the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, where I won the all-around silver and again silver on floor. I felt so well-prepared physically and mentally. I was injury-free, I was able to train continuously, to make progress. I felt confident in every event. …

But I felt ready for Montreal. At the National Championships I had won four gold medals and I was confident. Too bad about what happened in Montreal – all over before it started. …

This is the last chance I’m giving myself

I’m assuming this was published in Romanian before her fantastic comeback at Europeans 2020.

Recall Larisa snapped her Achilles at Worlds 2017 Montreal.
