Dipa’s Handspring double front was better than in the prelims. Definitely not a zero vault.

Under current FIG rules I’d say the ranking of the top 3 was fair. WTC did not address how to more severely evaluate dangerous deep landings. They should. There is too much incentive to β€œchuck” the Prudnova.

That said, Dipa is great on this apparatus. Her 2nd Kasamatsu (like Tsuk double twist) was one of the best vaults at Test Meet.

Dipa will inspire many tens of thousands of kids to try the sport.

Not a zero vault, in my opinion. Judges gave her 8.066 execution score. Final = 15.066.

FIG WTC should be more severe on dangerous landings than that.

An excellent YDT scores about 15.0

Dipa’s podium training double front was better.

stupid Karolyi training

The most severe, the most stupid Gymnastics training was in the 1980s. Here’s a case study. Other coaches tried to emulate.

Retton has undergone 19 surgeries, including having both hips replaced, partially because of all the pounding as a gymnast. She needs back and shoulder surgery, which won’t be scheduled until after the Rio Games.

“When I say we did 60 to 70 vaults a day, we did — and that was landing on that hard surface,” Retton said. …

Jing Wu – the same Vault twice

Jing Wu finished in 2nd place in Cottbus.

Her first was supposed to be a Kasamatsu. (Left hand contacting first, left twist.)

Handspring

But NO JUDGE should call this a Tsukahara approach. It’s a Handspring with staggered hand position.

Click PLAY or watch both vaults on YouTube.

This is the same cheat the Chinese men were doing in the past. 😦
