USA MAG Worlds Trial day 2

Donnell Whittenburg and Brody Malone already qualified for Worlds.

WHO will be selected for the other 3 competition spots. Plus traveling alternate.

Day 2 AA results were not all that great:

1. Shane Wiskus 82.900
2. Colt Walker 82.800
3. Yul Moldauer 82.700
4. Asher Hong 81.500

USA has a chance at top 3 teams in Liverpool. Therefore they should be taking chances to try to finish 3rd, not 4th. TOP THREE automatically qualify to Olympics Paris.

The team is weak on Pommels and H Bar. The defending World Champion likely earned his spot with this set today.

Kaylia Nemour 6.95 E-score

Many were surprised at this evaluation for Kaylia’s awesome Bars routine.

Aside from the great SAVE on one regrasp, most of the deductions were for handstand angles, something for which FIG WAG puts far too much importance IMHO.

As a coach, I’d recommend Kaylia switch to straddle cast handstand, used in 2022 by almost every Elite past about age-10.

Zhang Boheng v Daiki Hashimoto

The two gymnasts most likely to win Worlds 2022 are Zhang Boheng or Daiki Hashimoto.

Both young and improving.

All the men at Trials will be named to the team. Biggest decision is which 3 will be named to the competition team alongside Brody Malone and Donnell Whittenburg who already qualified.

The rest will be officially replacement athletes.
