Mykayla Skinner – Floor

Judging “mitigation“:

… lessening the force or intensity of something unpleasant … the act of making a condition or consequence less severe …

Like it or not, judges are influenced by difficulty. MyKayla’s routine is far, far more difficult than any other in NCAA. Many judges evaluate it less severely than the comparatively simple 10.0 routines with only 2 tumbling lines.

Personally I feel the NCAA is ready for rule changes rewarding more difficulty legally. O’Hashi on Beam, Peng on Bars, Mykayla on Floor, the double twisting Yurchenkos, etc.

  1. Stepping out of landings should be disallowed. Also the legal cheat in elite to do a bounce (“leap”) should be stopped. Require sticks. It is more artistically pleasing, is understandable to the casual fan, and is harder to really control.

Yes, the scoring should be changed to reward more difficulty. The simplest is just to go to elite scoring. But if they want to retain 10.0 just increase the difficulty level for full credit.
