Russell Mills – 1964 Pommels

This is the winning routine in the 1964 AAU Nationals (the precursor to the USGF and USA gymnastics). Mills also won the NCAA Championships in 1963 and 1964, coached by Don Tonry and . competing for Yale University. When Mills hit his routines, he was unbeatable in the US and probably by anyone in the world at that time. There was no international competition for specialists during the period. The mount here is a back Moore, caught a bit late by the camera.

Damien Cachia – Pommels

Interesting routine construction. He spends half his time moving into and out of handstand.

Damien has had some excellent results in his last two international competitions. #PacRim2016 and the Canadian friendly at University of Calgary. Many are wondering why he wasn’t named to Canada’s Rio Test Meet team.

University of Calgary International Cup RESULTS

The annual international “friendly” in Canada was better than ever this year. Canada’s top guys vs very strong teams from China and USA in a 6-5-4 format.

The top 2 international stars for Canada were out of the team. Scott Morgan competed only Rings, protecting a “lower body” injury. Kevin Lytwin (knee ligament injury) did LIVE colour commentary.

When Team USA had ZERO falls starting on Pommels, I got the feeling they’d win this event. They did.
