WAG Team Final in 1-minute

Well.

How do you sum-up one of the most surprising Worlds Team Finals in history?

USA wins 6th consecutive Worlds

Top 3 earn automatic team qualification to the Paris Olympics.

🥇 USA 🇺🇸 166.564
🥈 GBR 🇬🇧 163.363
🥉 Canada 🇨🇦 160.563

  1. Brazil 🇧🇷 159.661
  2. Italy 🇮🇹 159.463
  3. China 🇨🇳 157.529
  4. Japan 🇯🇵 156.964
  5. France 🇫🇷 155.863

There are MANY stories to tell.

But for me the biggest surprise was Japan. This team with zero Worlds experience were fantastic. Up until their final routine on Bars.

For Worlds 2023 all eyes will be on Japan. These are going to be some of the top gymnasts in the world very, very soon.

MAG Team Qualifications in 1-minute

I spoke with Ollie and Blythe after the disastrous first 2 subdivisions.

We couldn’t recall a more awful, bad, surprising start to a meet for the top teams at Worlds.

Happily, the meet got much, much better in the next 4 subdivisions. In fact, statistically the number of HIT routines might not be that much lower than usual.

How do you sum up 14 hours and hundreds of routines in one minute?

Men’s Liverpool Qualifications highlights

Since the competition was not entirely streamed worldwide, you’ve probably heard it was a splatfest.

Not really. It started that wayUSA and China with many weird and surprising problems. Donnell getting a zero on Vault, for example.

But by the end of the meet I’d say it was a terrific competition. A fight for every Finals spot.

Depth. In fact, for Apparatus, IF we had 16 finalists instead of eight, there’s every chance a medalist would come from someone near the end of the list.

Top qualifiers from Ireland, Philippines and Armenia.

Many teams are very proud of their performance. I’d single out Canada and Hungary, for example.

More gymnasts are slowly learning not to compete difficulty that’s not close to perfect. Rings evaluation was particularly severe in Liverpool. It’s far better to go clean than risk a questionable strength skill. Especially Invert Cross.

Superb execution gymnasts include Yulo and Harald Wybe from Norway. Uchimura good.
