Nikita Nagorny on the IOC decisions

Nikita has not said much publicly about the Paris Olympics, until now.

Rewriting Russian Gymnastics linked to an interview he gave lately to a domestic sports publication.

  1. I would agree that sport should not be politicized, and that in general, there’s no basis for restricting Russian or Belarusian gymnasts. However, the fact that he believes that he hasn’t mixed sport with politics for gain is glaringly hypocritical in the face of that statement.

Regarding the ban, where do we draw the line? Is it acceptable for any superpower to participate in that case? It then becomes an issue of not absolute truth or what is right, simply if the majority, for politically expedient reasons, sides with or acquiesces to the stronger country/countries regarding that country or coalition’s military actions. I also do not like how athletes are restricted in their freedom to express their opinions outside of sport. Who are we to censure them just because we categorically disagree with their opinion and the actions that they support? To me, that is forced silence and a restriction on a fundamental human right: freedom of speech. Just as might does not make right, neither does plurality. The Olympic movement is designed to be removed from politics and an opportunity to humanize each other through sport, so I do not personally endorse this ban or previous state-sponsored bans.

Nevertheless, Nagorny is just making himself look foolish when he makes blatantly hypocritical statements like that …

Also, just my two cents. This comment is only meant to be an interaction with the content of this blog in a respectful manner. I love your posts and check your blog several times a day! ❤
