Terrible news.
Melanie Coleman died after being injured on a Bars dismount in training.
“We are heartbroken and stunned by Melanie’s passing,” head coach Mary Fredericks said. “She was an incredibly hard worker and a sweet-spirited young woman. …”
Melanie’s family has set up a GoFundMe.com page, as well as a page that coordinates meal donations to the family at MealTrain.com.

How did she get injured? Was there something that we can learn so that other don’t get injured the same way?

All we know was that it was a spinal injury. The skill was double back tuck from Bars.
That should be an easy skill for a gymnast of this level.

I heard that she baulked the dismount and swung back the other way, slipped off and scorpioned on the ground.
