The best reason to use line drills in your training plan is to get a lot done in a short period of time. All gymnasts are working.
For compulsories, they are an excellent way to ensure you are getting many reps of simple skills.

I really like the line work in this video. Lots of great break downs for learning variations on roll skills. It’s by no means a complete picture, but it should give coaches who haven’t done much with roll sequences so ideas. . . If you look closely you may notice some drills are performed with socks between their ears and shoulders to help the gymnast focus on pushing y’all through tune or shoulders. Tried it with my guys since seeing it at @leedsgymnastics and it made a big difference. . . Thanks coach @rawly87 and his gymnasts! Also notice the really good looking cool guy @gymnastjonas doing the nice turning work 👍
On the other hand … I’ve seen Gyms where kids get sick of line drills. Sometimes quality suffers with less able gymnasts.
A good compromise is to use line drills occasionally.
