judging Gymnastics for love or money?

A WAG Brevet judge earns the highest hourly wage of judges in the United States at $32.30 per hour.

That sounds like a good wage.

But when expenses are calculated it’s not nearly such a good part-time job as it sounds.

Profit before fed/state taxes $ 2,757.33 ($91.91 ave/meet)

  1. I completely disagree with the breakdown of expenses reported in that article. Not only that, if you are a men’s judge(which I am), we get paid about double the wage of women I’ve been told. We are paid on a per routine judgement, rather than hourly. Most men’s meets have only 1 judge per event and women tend to have 2, which tends to even out cost among paying men’s and women’s judges. Perhaps the women should advocate a pay increase. We reevaluate our rates every couple years.
