spotting Pak 1/1 on Bars

Matt from Oregon Gymnastics Academy posted this clip.

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

I’ve never spotted this skill (Bhardwaj). But OGA gymnast, Alexis, makes it look very easy. Possibly even easier than Pak … except for the downswing on the kip.

Is this Alexis competing at the Battle in Seattle 2008?

Leave a comment if you’ve coached it in the past and have advice.

UPDATE: In the comments Matt says:

This skill was found by accident like many skills one looks for when working with level 9’s and 10’s. She had issues over rotating an over shoot, so what do you do? Work a PAK. When she would land in a handstand for the over shoot, I would count 1,2 then twist her the other half. For any questions spotting ANYTHING on bars, please email me at zo22311 AT yahoo.com.

Sometimes the old dog doesn’t need new tricks.

Scott’s not retiring anytime soon. Nationals will be hosted in his home town in 2011. …

Perhaps Scott can try to catch up to Epsen JANSEN, second at the Norwegian Championships this year.

Epsen is over 40 now.

another backyard trampoline death

Tragic.

… A SIX-year-old Tasmanian boy has accidentally hanged himself after getting entangled in a clothes line while jumping on a trampoline.

Police said the boy was using a trampoline placed under a clothes line in the backyard of his New Norfolk home, north west of Hobart, about 11.30am today.

As he jumped, the strap of his bicycle helmet got caught on the nylon rope of the clothes line and tightened around his neck.

The clothes line appeared to have swung away from the trampoline, leaving the boy suspended and unable to free himself, police said.

Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

Condolences to the family.

… On July 1st I was at a big house party with a TERRIBLE backyard trampoline. Six or eight kids on it at a time. Yet I made no attempt to police it. Or “inform” the parents of the dangers.

If I was King of the World I would ban backyard trampolines. Since I’m not, I’ll have to bite my tongue every time I see one in a backyard.

I’m feeling rotten for Australia. Recall that a 19-yr-old Townsville tumbler died in June .

Sadly, I missed it this year.

All the best to the many gymnasts in parades yesterday. A special shout out to Pioneer Gymnastics. This pic was posted on their Facebook page.

The individual all-around will provide a high level of entertainment from the top gymnasts of each country.
