The premeet favourite from China came through with a strong win. New new code rules count only the top 8 skills for Difficulty. Rawles clarified that this meet was judged under old code (10 skills).

Alexis did it in a pike position. I think she might be the only one that can make that claim. Certainly one of the biggest if not the biggest backward tumbling skill ever performed in competition on floor by a female gymnast. I have some old videos of her at home somewhere accidentally pulling off some pretty impressive triple full-ins into the pit while learning it (getting lost LOL), aged about 10.

It’s snowing in Canada.

China won.

But Japan stayed surprisingly close.

As expected, the Chinese girls (featured in this post) won the team competition, thanks mostly to a stellar performance on beam, where their lowest score was an astonishing 14.90 (a very high score, given that it was based on eight rather than ten elements). Men: Athletes must be not less than 14 years nor more than 18 years to be eligible.

Women: Athletes must be not less than 13 years nor more than 15 years of age to be eligible.
