Coach Denis Vachon, one of the best twisters in the world himself, feels David might be the best Power Tumbling twister he’s ever worked with. 🙂

He’s the Miller

Dagmar Nissen Munn:

Sometime in 1963-64, Wayne Miller, a young talented trampolinist from Louisiana, with the outstanding coaching of Jeff Hennessy, was the first person to successfully perform a triple twisting double backward somersault on the trampoline. Since he was the first, it became known as “The Miller.”

Wayne’s coach Jeff Hennessy did film it with a 16-mm camera and sent the footage to Jess Robinson for his column in the Modern Gymnast magazine. The sequence of frames from the original film were published in the 1964 July/August issue. …

Whistler BOUNCE Academy

Whistler Bounce Acrobatic Academy has been open for 2yrs, expanding to two adjacent gyms over that time. It’s a Trampoline club geared to ski and Action Sports.

Click PLAY or watch Deaner – Ski & Bounce on Vimeo. It’s got some pretty cool footage of Bounce. As well as big air on the slopes.

Normally I’d urge parents to keep their kids OUT of Trampoline gyms like this. But BOUNCE is better than most. More thoughtfully set-up. Better padded.

Dave Ross built them a custom Rebound Super Tramp. That’s one insane piece of equipment.

It’s worth checking out if you get up to Whistler B.C., site of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

inclined leg raises

It’s a mistake to have athletes do these with bad form.

We must incline the “board” (could be a mat) until they can do those with good technique.

leg raises

Doug Davis agrees. In fact, he feels we should start leg raises with young kids lying on the floor.

If they are not strong enough for those, Doug would put them on an incline, but with the feet higher than the head. Gravity assists rather than providing resistance.

… “Because she skis so efficiently, everyone perceives Mikaela as this perfectly prepped, organized little machine,” Eileen said. … “If they only knew that we don’t know what we’re doing half the time.

“People think we’ve had this master plan to produce a world champion. We have no plan.”

Italy in 2013

Elisa Emanuelli:

For the Italians, 2013 started with the return of Enrico Casella as Direttore Tecnico Nazionale (National Team Coach/Coordinator). In an interview, he stated that:

“Italy must do well on the occasions that matter, and must be able to compete on a global level.”

I would say that in 2013 Italy was able to do just that. … in total they won 17 international medals.

After the disappointment of the 2012 Olympics, many thought that Vanessa Ferrari might retire …

At 23, Ferrari, proved all the naysayers wrong. Of the 17 international medals won by Italy in 2013, Vanessa won 7 of those. She won 2 golds, AA and FX, at the Mediterranean Games; 2 silvers on floor, one from Worlds the other the La Roche sur Yon world cup; and 3 bronzes, 2 in AA at the Stuttgart and Glasgow World Cups and 1 on BB at the Mediterranean Games. The podium finishes at the end of the year World Cups means that Ferrari now has won a medal in every major international competition except for the Olympics.
