It does look improved. It will be interesting to see if Skinner continues to lay down a good Amanar if that could affect Olympic team selection, provided of course she has a high scoring floor. If the US has three Amanars, that would put them really far ahead of other countries. Some other countries only have one or two DTYs. Russia has Paseka’s Amanar and two DTYs.
Of course a lot will depend on whether Aly Raisman gets her Amanar in better shape, improves her beam, and gets her floor cleaned up, as well as whether Gabby puts together a consistent Amanar. Maggie Nichols already has a consistent Amanar. I would think Marta’s ideal scenario in Rio would be three Amanars in the Team Final mirroring 2012 London, which put the US so far ahead of everyone they could just relax and do their other routines.
It still seems, though, that a bars-beam specialist would still be the ideal choice for Team USA. Madison Kocian looks like she’s determined to be just that.
