Note that this is a “Kaz”, not a Tsuk 1/1.

It’s 1/4-on, 3/4-off in the opposite direction.

Is it actually possible for anybody (besides perhaps you :-) ) to get this straight? I keep reading about this and never quite master the Kaz/Tsuk distinction. Also, do women ever do Kaz vaults?

Almost every gymnast, male and female, does 1/4-on, 3/4-off.

The alternative, 1/4-on, 1 1/4-off is far more difficult.

Certainly a few women compete the vault, though not many.

Let’s see. If a vault is 1/4 on, 3/4 off in the opposite direction, as you describe the Kaz above, wouldn’t that be a net 1/2 in the opposite direction?

And if it were 1/4 on, 1 1/4 off in the same direction, wouldn’t that be a net 1 1/2 in the same direction?

So it seems to me that if you’re describing a vault with a full twist, either the numbers or the directions above would be switched?

Thanks so much for your help.

That’s right, Jody.

Sometimes Kaz, done badly, looks like a handspring front 1/2 twist.
