… on front tuck. Oops. (13.25)
Likely she’ll still qualify to the AA Final.
Ivana Hong missed Bars.
Commentators are surprised (as am I) how well the Romanian girls are doing on Bars.
I’m trying to follow the action via Facebook, Twitter and websites. Bit of a jumble. Preliminaries are often the best competition. I wish the first 2 days were streamed via the internet.
Some funny stuff from Couch Gymnast at World Championships …
…Fabian Hambeuchen limping out of a Japanese restaurant at the o2, hollering “sushi!!!”, which made much more sense when it became clear he was yelling it at Kohei Uchimura who came over and bowed at him and consoled him about his injury! …
Weird.
One of my favourite College gymnasts.
… Two Florida media sources are reporting that the goods, nine rifles and shotguns, as well as two computers, were stolen in a series of burglaries connected with Sinclair’s boyfriend Leonard “Bud” Williams. …

Just a bad boyfriend?

A good orientation drill for a near essential skill in elite gymnastics. From Gymnastike’s excellent Technique Tuesday series.
Coach Jeff Beal owns and operates OHG in Buda, Texas.

Gymnastics Videos on Gymnastike
Prerequisite would be a very strong toe-on, toe-off series, of course.
Want to be in the movies?

With the mission of broadening gymnastics education to coaches around the country, the Academy of Coaching Excellence presents, Project 2012: a Web Event for Coaches highlighting the essential techniques for gymnastics success in the next quadrennium. This 12-week event brings the best coaches in the United States to your computer screen doing LIVE lectures and demonstrations on the most important cutting-edge information in our sport.
NEW! Winter Congress beginning Tuesday, November 3rd through December 8th 10am PST/12pm EST.
Each session consists of different topics. Participate in one or both sessions depending on your availability and interest. Coaches will learn cutting edge information from the best clinicians in our country! Sessions include 45 minutes of lecture and 15 minutes of question and answer, using live lecture, video, power point, and of course your questions, all on your computer. Watch it live or watch the recording from anywhere you’d like.
There are only 50 spots available. Ask your club to register one time for the event for all the coaches in your club. You can pay for the subscription from the professional development budget, assuming you have one.
The cost is US$199 / 6wks. (Since the value of the American dollar is dropping like a stone, it’s a better “deal” for those from other countries than Session 1.)
No TV or online video coverage was available from the Men’s Preliminary competition. We might get some highlights via YouTube.
Anne just posted a list of qualifiers to finals on Gymnastike.
Diego HYPOLITO is first alternate on Floor. He did not make the final. It’s very, very difficult to make an Event Final in Men’s Gymnastics.
Chinese gymnasts were first on 4 of 6 apparatus. They brought all specialists, no All-arounder.
A few more jots:
RING MASTER: The old guy has still got it.
Jordan Jovtchev, who at 36 is the oldest man in the competition, advanced to yet another still rings final at the world gymnastics championships on Tuesday and is in good shape for a medal. His 15.6 was the third-best score on the event. …
With his salt-and-pepper hair, Jovtchev, a two-time world champion on rings and floor exercise, looks more like a coach as he roams the floor at events. Get him up on the rings, though, and the years melt away. …
—
NO THREE-PEAT: Chen Yibing’s reign on the still rings is over.
In what might have been the biggest upset of the day, the Olympic gold medalist and two-time defending world champion failed to even make the final on rings. The top eight advance, and Chen’s 15.125 was only good enough for 11th place.
Chen had a solid routine going until his dismount, when he failed to push the rings far enough to the side and got tangled up in them. He stayed on his feet, but it was an awkward landing and he took a few steps backward to steady himself.
—
ROPES AND MATS: The Netherlands had a pair of brothers on its team, Epke and Herre Zonderland. Epke Zonderland made the finals in high bar and parallel bars. … Zou Kai, the floor and high bar gold medalist in Beijing, will have a chance to add world titles in both events. Zou qualified for both finals, and had the highest score (15.6) on high bar in qualifying.

Kohei Uchimura won prelims in the All-around.
… Uchimura lived up to his favored status Tuesday, cruising to the top spot after the first two sessions of qualifying at the world gymnastics championships. His score of 90.925 points was more than 1½ points better than anyone else, with one session left.
“I think I could win the gold medal if I hit every routine,” Uchimura said through a translator. “But who knows? It depends on the performances and the routines that day.”
Maxim Deviatovski of Russia, the leader after the first session, is second with 89.350 points and American Tim McNeill, competing at his first major international competition, is a surprising third with 88.775 points. Britain’s Daniel Keatings is fourth while U.S. champion Jonathan Horton is fifth after a fall on the pommel horse. …
The biggest “surprise” was Tim McNeill. Surprise to the World, that is. There’s no surprise to those of us who have been watching him in the NCAA the past 4yrs.

Women’s preliminaries go tomorrow.
