Gafuik getting CONSISTENT

Nate is great.

Nathan Gafuik impressed me at the 2010 Canadian National Championships.

Even though he was on a down part of the training cycle, on return from a win at Pacific Rim, he could still hit routines with relative ease.

He won the all-around, Floor, Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar.

CONGRATS.

CdnGymChamps – Jessica Dowling

Here’s a new Canadian Senior gymnast with tons of potential. And charisma.

Many remarked on how much they liked Jessica Dowling from Oakville. She’s slim, petite, with great artistry. And a unique style.

British gymnast sues coaches

Gymnastics Examiner comments on former British team gymnast Rebecca Owen blaming lingering back issues on her gymnastics coaches, Colin and Christine Still.

… An international gymnast is suing her coaches after an injury left her unable to have a baby naturally.

Rebecca Owen, 23, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, claims she had to train despite a back fracture.

Today, seven years after she quit her sport, she is in constant agony, unable to sit or stand for more than a few minutes. …

Training injury cost me chance of having baby, claims gymnast

The lurid headline makes me suspicious that this is a British tabloid exaggeration.

If Rebecca is as incapicitated as the story claims, she may have a case. But how do you prove it was training while injured?

Canadian gymnasts to NCAA

Who’s headed south?

Stanford-bound Kristina Vaculik won the Canadian Championship last night in Kamloops, BC. Vaculik defeated preliminary leader Madeline Gardiner. UIC signee Catherine Dion was 9th and Utah signee Nansy Damianova was tied for 11th. UCLA incoming frosh Sydney Sawa was 14th while San Jose State Spartan signee Cassandra Harrison was 16th.

College Gym Fans

… Vaculik is the stuff gymnastics fluff pieces are made of. A prodigious talent sidelined for the Olympics comes back after struggling for the finances and resources (according to Davydova) to treat a long-term injury properly, returns to elite with even better form and a scholarship to an excellent college under her belt. If she was a US gymnasy, NBC would be sketching out its voiceover as we speak. …

The Couch Gymnast – Girl Most Likely …

Kristina plans to compete a year of College, then return to Canada to try for the Olympics. Easier said, than done.

Any other Canadian girls going to the NCAA this Fall?

Update: Laurie-Eve Gagne will be going to the University of Arizona.

Camille Santerre-Gervais to Iowa State. Nicole Pineau to Iowa.
