Leyva, Orozco look like Olympians

That’s the way it looks to Ron Noe:

John Orozco picked up where he left off last October at the World Championships. Orozco is the Day 1 leader at Winter Cup, after a day of many lackluster performances, especially on pommel horse. He needed a 15.45 on his last event (vault) to tie 1st session leader Chris Brooks, and he ended up with a 15.60 to give him 89.35 for the day. …

Overall, Leyva fell three times and still finished in 3rd place (87.65). He is definitely showing improvement on FX and SR, making him (and Orozco) a lock for the Olympic Team. …

Ron sees David Sender as having a shot at the team, too. Cool.

Paul Hamm will likely get one of 3 Wild Card spots on National Team. But that’s certainly not guaranteed. The USA has a LOT of Olympic contenders.

Many commented that scores look too high. Leave a comment if you’ve a link to the bonus system that’s being used.

… compilation of mainly 2011 Japan World Championships …

I find the voice over preachy — but the montage is well worth watching. Some of the best men in the world doing some of the hardest stuff in the world.

single pommel Kehre

LOVE that skill. … Single pommel Kehre, not single pommel Russian as I originally posted.

Here are two sets from an NCAA meet at West Point that include it.

Routine 1 – Tony Beck (14.80)
Routine 2 – Craig Hernandez (15.65)

They’d never get those scores internationally, however.

Paul Hamm did not impress, but I’m glad he’s in the mix. Always a threat. The BEST NEWS for Team USA is the return of David Sender. He’s a Ring man and a great AA. I’d love to see him compete London after the silly accident that took him out of Beijing.

… Great routine. Score seems a little high. They have some kind of bonus points system — that may account for it.

HUGE 15.65 on pommel

Glen Ishino: 15.65 on pommel horse, HOLY MACKEREL!!! The breakdown was 6.7, 8.95. That’s the score of the meet in my opinion, significant enough to suddenly put him right in the Olympic mix. He also had a solid 14.4 on floor.

Paul Hamm looks good on Horse … but only scored 13.05 (5.9, 7.15)
