Quaas stole my P Bar routine

… I’m pretty sure this is my Boys Under 10 Parallel Bar routine. From 1967.

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

Her “planche” is stronger, I admit.

That routine was featured on the Colbert Report, my favourite TV comedy.

Dan Keatings ankle injury

Bad timing.

… he’s already on a big rehab programme and is working to try and qualify for the European Champs and hopefully to make the grade for the Olympic Games,’ said coach Paul Hall. …

Metro

But GBR has depth. They could still do well at Europeans without Dan starting each apparatus for them, as he did at the London Test Meet.

Opus Energy asked Dan what he most admires most about his team mates:

Louis Smith – he really knows how to handle pressure and nothing fazes him;

Reiss Beckford – really has the ‘wow’ factor with some amazing big skills;

Daniel Purvis – unbelievable work ethic, he just never stops;

Sam Hunter – dedicated to gymnastics and a true professional;

Kristian Thomas – also works unbelievably hard and has fantastic team spirit;

Theo Seagar – very powerful gymnast;

Ruslan Panteleymanov – this guy has awesome style and puts the artistic into gymnastics; and
Then there are Sam Oldham and Max Whitlock – both of them are young and very talented gymnasts who push the Senior Team every day. Two names to look out for in the future.

Knock to ankles doesn’t stop training

Valeria Maksyuta – Olympian?

Israeli requires that their gymnasts confirm readiness to be sent to the Olympics by finishing top 12 AA at the European Championships 2012. Or top 6 in any apparatus final.

That’s confirmed by Valeria on this post:

… A bit about me

I’m Valeria Mksiota, 24 years old and I’m Artistic Gymnastic athlete. I started training when I was 5, and has been training for 20 years. I have dedicated my life to this sport and today I found myself only one small step from my biggest dream – the possibility to join Israel’s Olympic team and represent the country in London …

… In 2011, I won 27 medals in international competitions, 13 of them gold medals. …

Valeria Maksyuta’s Olympic dream

That links to a training video. And a fund-raising request.

It would be a terrible shame if Valeria was not confirmed by Israel. She’s one of the most exciting gymnasts in the world.

I love her unique double front 1/1-out dismount on Bars.

Thanks Maya.

Dasha Joura FX / Vault

Aussie gymnast Luke Wiwatowski confirms the rumour:

… I had a chat with Dasha some time ago and she has been training and was looking to compete a couple (Floor and Vault from my last correspondence) of apparatus during the Queensland State Championships. …

the very best gymnasts – Acro

For some years now my favourite gymnastics discipline has been Acrobatic Gymnastics.

The ultimate in human performance, without apparatus.

Acrobatic Beauty – Behind the scene

Needless to say, these athletes are in high demand for Circus.

Acrobatic Gymnastics Worlds

The first World Championships of Acrobatic Gymnastics to be held outside of Europe begins today in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

April 16 – 18, 2012 – Worlds
April 20 – 22, 2012 – World Age Groups

Details.

It’s my favourite gymnastics discipline. But I don’t really understand the rules.

FIG posted a primer:

… Acrobatic Gymnastics offers five different possibilities of partnerships to the athletes:

Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Pairs;
Women’s Group (3 gymnasts) and
Men’s Groups (4 gymnasts).

… The exercises presented in competitions by the pairs/groups must not exceed 2:30 minutes, have to include a certain number of required collective (partnership) and individual elements and are of three different types: static (balance), dynamic, and combined.

Could Romania win Europeans?

I wouldn’t be surprised. Though they finished 3rd last time behind Russia and GBR, things are looking up for the girls in white.

Larisa Iordache is looking strong. And can even do decent Bars.

14.525; 6.2; 8.325

She went 14.233 at American Cup. (VIDEO)

Euros are coming! They’ll be held in Brussels from 9th-13th May, for the WAG. Qualifications, TFs and EFs. No AA. …

LOCKS- Larisa Iordache, Catalina Ponor

LIKELY- Diana Chelaru, Diana Bulimar

POSSIBLE- Sandra Izbasa (depending on injury status) Amelia Racea, Raluca Haidu

Strengths: floor, beam, consistency

Weaknesses: bars bars and more bars, specifically the lack of a 3rd usable bars worker. …

Whilst Russia are probably the favourites, the Romanians are in a … two way battle for gold with Mother Russia. …

Italy could challenge GBR for Bronze.

Hambuechen – 4 apparatus

Back to competition after injury, Fab’s Pommels are improved. And he’s perhaps stronger on Rings.

Fabian uses the new Rybalko to layout Jaeger 1/1.

(PH): 5,7 / 14,2
(SR): 6,0 / 15,433
(PB): 6,2 / 15,1
(HB): 7,5 / 16,4

Looking forward to seeing what he brings to European Championships.

GymNiceTic:

Hambüchen says that he won`t compete at Europeans. The Euros don`t fit in his schedule as he is mainly preparing for London. So his next competition will be the national trials for the Olympics in June.
