The surprising thing is not that Maroney is higher & further, but rather that Hong is so close.
Hong Un-Jong (2008 Olympic Champion) and Biles will most likely be the other two gymnasts on the Vault podium.
Of the 3, Un-Jong was the least consistent in training.
FIG has a great summary of what happened yesterday in prelims. With gorgeous photos:
Host BELGIUM had a record best 13th place as a team in the 2012 London Olympics Test Event. And now has qualified 2 gymnasts to the top 24 AA Final for the first time ever. Gaelle Mys & Laura Waem.

CONGRATULATIONS!

McKayla stayed in bounds. Did a terrific routine.
Seems she would have qualified for the Floor final without the 0.1 penalty at #WChAntwerp.

6.1 + 8.333 – 0.1 = 14.333
– 0.1 is for overtime. In the end of the video the scoreboard shows 1:31.
USA is as prepared and professional as any nation. This coaching error is a big unhappy surprise.
On the other hand, neither McKayla (6.1 D) nor Kyla (5.7 D) would be medal favourites.
“@BTOgymblog: Good job, New York Times. Kohei is an excellent skater. pic.twitter.com/6AMRwjjny1” wow shame on you NYT and AP… #FactCheck

Actually, this is the first bit of hilariously wrong media coverage I’ve seen.
Leave a comment if you have seen anything else like this.

Ono is here in Belgium.
She thinks Hambüchen is ranked too low, Oleg too high.
The Chinese guys are consistent, I’ll give them that. Kato too.
Just to keep the conversation lively, I’ll go for the entertainers:
2. Mikulak
3. Hambüchen (hits Pommels for 13.70)
4. Zhou Shixiong, China
5. Ryohei Kato, Japan

@theallaround:
BB qualifiers 1.Iordache, 2.Shang, 3.Ross, 4.Rodionova, 5.Biles, 6.Ferrari, 7.Ferlitto, 8.Mustafina
Mustafina? … That’s a crime.
Who was knocked out of the Beam final due to incompetent E-panel judging?
Oh. Only Yao Jinnan, one of the best two Beam routines in the competition. Sob. 😦
I’d like know Michel Léglise’s opinion of a set of Judging rules that rewards this kind of performance with qualification to a World Championships Final.
He’s Head of FIG Medical Commission.

1st Vault : 14.900 (D score : 7.0, E score : 7,90), 2nd Vault : 14.466 (D score : 5.80, E score : 8.666). Average : 14.683.
Obviously 1.0 is not a big enough penalty on Vault. It would need to be 2.0 or higher to stop gymnasts from chucking it with or without a fall.
@theallaround:
Vault qualifiers 1.Maroney, 2.Biles, 3.Hong, 4.Phan, 5.Steingruber, 6.Chusovitina, 7.Peña, 8.Netteb
Fadwa Mahmoud from Egypt also competed the double front Vault. Similar landing position. But no fall. Better, but still dangerous.
Crazy and crazy difficult.

Provisory 2nd best score in Floor, behind Simone Biles (15.033).
Sadly, Victoria Moors fell on her new double double layout. Won’t qualify for the FX Final.
