last minute injury to Romania

😦

Lauren Hopkins:

… Ana Maria Ocolisan of Romania injured her ankle on vault in the training hall this afternoon and will no longer be able to compete at World Championships.

Ocolisan will not be replaced in competition by alternate Andreea Munteanu, who has been uninspired in training this season since winning beam gold at European Championships and is unprepared to step in on any event. This leaves Romania in a precarious four-up four-count situation on at least two events, as Andreea Iridon is only doing bars and beam (though she has done floor this year, so it’s possible she will add a routine there, but not on vault).

Right now, it looks like the all-arounders will include Larisa Iordache, Diana Bulimar, Silvia Zarzu, and Laura Jurca in addition to Iridon’s two events. Scary …

Manrique Larduet – AA contender

Cuban coach Carlos Gil:

“We face the challenge of a very positive, very optimistic. We are ready. We had a lot of time preparing for this moment and we want to respond to this possibility that has been given us. A great result would be a medal of any color, on any device. ”

The two Cuban guys were a BIG topic of discussion during the last session of podium training. BIG, IMPRESSIVE Gymnastics. A surprise to some who’ve not seen them.

The new superstar from Cuba has competed only one FIG meet – OSIJEK World / Challenge Cup 2015.

Yet in his 1st Worlds he’s a definite contender to finish high in the AA. Strong on all 6 apparatus. Even Pommels. 🙂

Click PLAY or watch his Rings on Facebook. One of the best dismounts in Glasgow.

Berki – Pommels

I’d call him the favourite to win Worlds. Even in the U.K.

Click PLAY or watch it on Facebook.

The Pommel Final, as usual, will be one of the most competitive.

Daniel Corral – P Bars

Rumour is that Daniel, first Mexican gymnast to win a medal at the World Championships (Pommels), will move to Texas to train with Ivan Ivankov.

MAG Tidbits from 2015 Worlds

Uncle Tim – Round ‘Em up, Boys: MAG Tidbits from 2015 Worlds – October 21, 2015

Oleg Verniaiev and Ukraine

Oleg has the best chance to end Kohei Uchimura’s long reign as World AA Champion at #Glasgow2015, in my opinion.

Oleg looked good in podium training. Relaxed. Working hard on his errors in mock meet routines.

On Vault he’s significantly better than Kohei. His Dragalescu STUCK today as it so often is.

On Pommels and Rings he’s close to Uchimura.

Oleg Verniaiev is the defending World Champion on P Bars. But today he had problems with Makutz. It would be one of the big shockers of the meet if Oleg missed on that apparatus.

Kohei Uchimura is significantly stronger on FX and Horizontal Bar, however.

If both hit 6/6, I predict Uchimara will walk away with his 6th consecutive Worlds title.

Oleg Verniaiev

After the debacle at the London Olympics – and all the problems in Ukraine – everyone wants these guys to qualify a team to Rio. But that’s no certainty. The team competition in MAG is fierce.

Romania in training

Lauren Hopkins has an update.

She feels they’re stronger than 2014, even without Ponor. Bars are not as BIG a problem as in the past. 🙂
