Oleg Verniaiev and Ukraine

Oleg has the best chance to end Kohei Uchimura’s long reign as World AA Champion at #Glasgow2015, in my opinion.

Oleg looked good in podium training. Relaxed. Working hard on his errors in mock meet routines.

On Vault he’s significantly better than Kohei. His Dragalescu STUCK today as it so often is.

On Pommels and Rings he’s close to Uchimura.

Oleg Verniaiev is the defending World Champion on P Bars. But today he had problems with Makutz. It would be one of the big shockers of the meet if Oleg missed on that apparatus.

Kohei Uchimura is significantly stronger on FX and Horizontal Bar, however.

If both hit 6/6, I predict Uchimara will walk away with his 6th consecutive Worlds title.

After the debacle at the London Olympics – and all the problems in Ukraine – everyone wants these guys to qualify a team to Rio. But that’s no certainty. The team competition in MAG is fierce.

Romania in training

Lauren Hopkins has an update.

She feels they’re stronger than 2014, even without Ponor. Bars are not as BIG a problem as in the past. 🙂

JUDGES & SPECTATORS at Worlds

Steve Butcher at #Glasgow2015:

“I’m most excited about the new facilities where the judges are sitting outside the field of play …

The large-screen scoreboard is at the World Championships for the first time. That’s going to be so informative for spectators … ”

HYDRO – GLASGOW
World Gymnastic games. Training day

Perhaps the most commanding addition to the arena floor, the ‘Mega Wall’, constructed from a series of LED screens, stands at six metres high and 20 metres long. It will display a mix of interesting information for spectators, including details about athletes, latest social media interactions, national flags, promotional videos and messages from sponsors. It will be the largest wall of its kind to be constructed in The SSE Hydro and a first for the World Gymnastics Championships. …

One international judge told me the ladies like the new seating. Vision is improved.

China v Japan at #Glasgow2015

The top two ranked teams are in the same subdivision. We got a chance to compare them today in podium training.

China-Japan-Flags-570x427

China looks stronger, in my opinion.

China often takes it easy in podium training. They were better than usual this time.

Japan does even more beautiful gymnastics. But I anticipate they’ll be less consistent.

This is wild speculation. The 3-up, 3-count Team final is still far, far away. No doubt both teams are saving something for showtime 🙂

UPDATE – @whiptotriple reports that Hasegawa may have left the arena in a wheelchair. 😦
