Men’s World Championships day 1

Half the gymnasts have competed. Four long, exciting sessions at #Glasgow2015.

Switzerland impressed me most. They were psyched. Hit a LOT of routines.

1. JPN 358.884
2. CHN 357.027
3. GBR 354.417
4. RUS 352.692
5. SUI 350.127
6. BRA 349.057
7. KOR 346.166
8. GER 345.717

Korea had the loudest, most enthusiastic fans.

Most of the other teams would take a do-over, if they got the chance.

For Japan and China prelims don’t matter much. They are focused on the 3-up, 3-count Final.

But prelims do decide the AA and apparatus finalists. That does matter.

SUI, BRA, GER fighting for Rio

A friend from Netherland said the Swiss men remind her of the Dutch women. They had a super competition and may end up in to top 8 for the Olympics. 🙂

All they can do now is wait. The Swiss actually beat the superstars of Germany on H Bar!

happy birthday Fabian

Had a great day at #Glasgow2015. Until Pommels.

He’s sitting 2nd on H Bar, so far. I’m hoping he can medal on that apparatus and earn his own spot for Rio.

Ellie Black actually qualified in 4th position to the AA.

Purvis, Whitlock & Wilson lead

There’s almost always more drama in the Men’s competition than Women’s.

First flight of #Glasgow2015 competition featured the home team, a squad I’d predicted will finish top 3 in Team. Here’s the AA result (so far).

1. Dan Purvis (GBR) 88.956

Purvis

Dan and Kohei are the two cleanest/consistent gymnasts in the sport today.

2T. Max Whitlock (GBR) 88.365
2T. Nile Wilson (GBR) 88.365

4. Oyakawa Mariano Arthur (BRA) 88.182
5. de Souza Bitencourt Lucas (BRA) 88.182
6. Campos Souza Caio (BRA) 84.831

Max will go through to the AA final with Dan. The tie-breaker is total “top 5 best routines”. Nile Wilson will sit (as he did last year due to wrist injury).

Brazil is counting every tenth. They’d love to finish top 8. Qualify directly to Rio with a full team.
