want to sponsor Nastia?

Her agent Evan Morgenstein is obviously doing the job for Nastia Liukin.

Check out the list of her sponsors:

If Shawn has well over a half million dollars in the bank, how much has Nastia put away?

She’s been sponsored longer.

the inevitable post-Olympics gymnastics gala

Shergymrag has the details on the 40-city American tour beginning in September post-Olympics.

Shawn Johnson and Paul Hamm have already been signed. Also Chellsie Memmel, Blaine Wilson and the entire men’s Olympic team.

Even former world champion Shannon Miller has been training and will perform in some of the shows.

New, this time round, is that musicians will be featured, as well, in the arena shows. It will be televised as well, of course.

Chinese Olympic Gymnastics team announced

From the Polish 101 blog:

It is widely rumored, though not confirmed, that the Chinese Women’s Olympic Gymnastics Team is as follows:

Cheng Fei
Yang Yilin
Jiang Yuyuan
He Kexin
Li Shanshan
Deng Linlin

Alternates:
Xiao Sha
He Ning
Sui Lu

Can this team HIT and beat the USA?

They have the start scores.

So, the favourite to win Bars at the Olympics He Kexin has been selected. Journalists in China should seek out a “scoop” now. Confirming that her birthday (listed as 01-Jan-1992 on her F.I.G. bio) is accurate.

Rumours persist that He Kexin is actually too young to compete. If so, a HUGE scandal looms.

He Kexin is coached by Liu Guicheng and He Hua.

USA Gymnastics taking down YouTube clips?

head-beating-against-wall.gifLive.Breath.Love Gymnastics reports that USAG is having Google take down YouTube clips for copyright infringement.

That’s lame, USAG.

Those montage video edits are put together by some of your biggest fans. The ones who watch every minute of your T.V. coverage. The ones who help videos go viral.

You should be paying video editors for putting together fantastic commercials for your sport. Or at least partnering with them.

Sad. Sad. Sad.

You can use sites like keepvid.com or TechCrunch to download your favourite YouTube clips to your computer. Before big, bad USAG takes them down.

gymnastics purists love Ukraine

Dariya Zgoba
Iryna Krasnyanska
Alina Kozich
Valentina Holenkova
Marina Proskurina
Anastasia Koval

Olga Scherbatykh is the alternate.

The Ukrainian girls are often considered the artistic successors to the Soviets; it’s easy to appreciate their work because it’s just so…Soviet.

The last World medal for the Ukrainian ladies was Krasnyanska’s gold in 2006 Aarhus, in the balance beam event finals. But if they medal in Beijing, gymnastics snobs will be weeping with love and happiness in front of their televisions.

International Gymnast no longer free

The introductory offer of FREE access to a digital version of the hard copy magazine seems to have ended.

It’s now US$24.95 for the digital, US$30.00 for both print and digital for one year.

Subscribe on Grips Etc

Good timing, I think. With the Olympics looming, interest of new subscribers has never been greater.

International Gymnast magazine online is still free. And, overall, the best gymnastics news site on the WWW.

Many libraries carry the print version.

THANKS IG!

Usana supplements for athletes

Many Canadian athlete associations use Usana supplements: Speed Skating Canada, Cross Country Canada, Biathalon Canada. Others include: US Speed Skating, USA Luge, and the Sony Ericsson Women’t Tennis Association.

My friend (and former gymnastics great) Phyllis Keegan raves:

Great for endurance, recovery as well as the only company in the world that provides a $1,000,000 athlete guarantee of no banned substances in our products.

shout out for choreographer Stacey Umeh

From the Australian Gymnastics Blog:

… Sister of Canadian Olympian Stella, former commentator, now a WAG coach and choreographer, Stacey has been sassin’ up the gymnastics scene from coast to coast here in Oz for more than a decade (two decades?), from the Waverley Gymnastics Centre here in suburban Melbourne to the tropical and topical climates of the Queensland Academy of Sport to the far-flung floor mats of the West Australian Institute of Sport. She not only choreographs routines for some of our top squad members (including, but not limited to, Lauren Mitchell’s funk-tacular new routine and Emma Dennis’ Chinese ballet-inspired exercise) but she lectures at clubs and institutes on coaching and artistic principles (particularly conditioning, flexibility and dance elements). Oh, and she heads the Creative Movement Group, a dance, physical movement and fitness company that tours around the country educating and working with anyone from schools to sports programs and other dance companies. …

Give it Up For Stellar Stacey

She’s great.
