Ivana Hong – TV interview

I wonder if we’ve seen the last of Al Fong as a National Team coach?

Ivana Hong and her Mom are very blunt about how disappointed they were at GAGE. And Al does not want to respond to the charges.

    Nadia – the movie

    From the Couch Gymnast:

Like a lot of people my age, I was converted to gymnastics by the movie Nadia, the film made not long after Comaneci herself defected from Romania …

I remember the first time I saw it. I sat there in my neighbor’s lounge room, mouth agape, and we watched the film over and over again. All summer long we watched the movie …

    Gymnastics: The Movie

Though I loved the real Nadia, at the time I pooh-poohed the Americanized version of a Romanian story.

To see a sample — where Nadia first meets Teodora — click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

    It’s pretty cheesy.

    wheelchair back flip – again

Aaron Fotheringham from Vegas was the first athlete to do a gainer back flip in a wheel chair.

He’s at it again. This time around he’s a “much bigger deal”. Live band. Big crowd.

Watch it on Straight to the Bar.

    His girlfriend is … scared.

    gymnast Justin Spring to wed

What’s happening on the post-Olympic tour?

First Blaine Wilson wed on the road.

We heard that Artemev and Horton are both engaged.

    Now this …

The World Tour of Gymnastics Superstars brought more than just athletic entertainment to the crowd at Assembly Hall on Wednesday night.

Former Illini and Olympic gymnast Justin Spring proposed to his girlfriend onstage during the event’s intermission. …

    PAGU gymnastics training camp

The Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU) Men’s camp hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs sounds fantastic.

I wish I could have been there.

The camp was coordinated by Steve Butcher, president of PAGU’s Men’s Technical Committee and a newly elected member of the International Gymnastics Federation’s (FIG) Men’s Technical Committee, and Dennis McIntyre, the men’s program director for USA Gymnastics. The camp was conducted through a grant from the FIG and supported by USA Gymnastics, the U.S. Olympic Committee and PAGU.

The six-day camp featured a combination of seminars and in-the-gym coach/athlete instruction. The topics ranged from biomechanics, nutrition and sports psychology to the new Code of Points, which governs men’s gymnastics. The list of instructors included: Ron Brant, the senior national team coordinator for USA Gymnastics; Juan Carlos Colon, the Puerto Rican national team coach; and Edouard Iarov, Canada’s head national coach who is a current FIG Academy instructor and a newly elected member of the FIG’s Men’s Technical Committee. Members of the USOC’s Sports Performance Division also took part in the camp, including Dr. Bill Sands, a noted sports science expert.
