Region 3 College Bound Camp

Recall that the USAIGC / NACGC College Bound Invitational Competition was discontinued after 2008.

Instead, Region 3 gymnasts looking for a College scholarship could come to a camp hosted by WOGA in Frisco, TX, Jun, 26-27, 2010.

Anne Phillips was there for Gymnastike.

Here are a couple of her videos.

Note Alyssa starts with her left foot forward for a right twisting Onodi. This would seem to be easiest. Some girls do start with the opposite foot, however, finding it keeps them “squarer”.

Canadian Gymnastics Championships 2011

Happy Canada Day, July 1st.

I just toured the venue for next year with one of the key organizers, Jim Rand.

As Canada’s largest annual celebration of gymnastics, the Canadian Gymnastics Championships will bring over 900 participants from across the country. …

The Championships will be co-hosted at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and the CARI Complex – MacLauchlan Arenas, located on the University of Prince Edward Island campus from May 23rd-28th, 2011.

Artistic MAG and WAG. Trampoline Sports: Tramp, Double-mini and Tumbling.

Artistic is hosted in a 21,000 sq ft gymnasium, the same venue used for Nationals 1994. Expect Marshalls to be strictly limiting access to the Floor as space is tight.

Trampoline and Tumbling will be happy, I think, in a big hockey arena. Lights will need to be raised for trampoline. The VIP area is in this building.

Awards have a nice space with a modern look.

The judging will be transparent as 3 courts will be made available for officials.

Though Charlottetown has a population of only about 33,000, everyone is confident that Jim and Lea Rand will put together an excellent Nationals.

Hotels will be at a premium, obviously. Book early.

Shout out for the 20 or more artistic and trampoline athletes from the Beausejour Gymnos Gymnastics club in Moncton, NB in the opening and closing ceremonies of the International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships which are being hosted in their home town this summer.

Nastia, Anna on The Office?

Anna Li posted this pic via TweetPhoto.

This could be funny. The Office does gymnastics?

UPDATE from Nastia on Twitter:

Had a fun day shooting another subway commercial and TV special with Brian Baumgartner from “The Office”

Star Steve Carell says the next will be his last season. No doubt The Office will be cancelled with his departure.

If you’re still holding out hope that Anna Li will resume training for elite competiton, stop.

Anna’s having too much fun this summer.

Both she and Nastia are coaching camp in L.A., however.

confirmed – Cal coach Barry Weiner retires

There was some hope that the excellent University California Berkeley men’s gymnastics coach might stay. I hoped.

But Tuesday, June 29th Barry announced his resignation.

… “I’m very proud of the work we have done over the last 20 years here at Cal – not just the great teams and champions, but I’m proud of all the great people who have left their mark,” Weiner said. “Mostly, I am proud of the contributions that our student-athletes have made and continue to make in all walks of life. I have been very fortunate to have spent 19 great years coaching at Cal. I am going to miss working with all of the great kids and people who make up the Cal community.” …

I’ve written a letter to the Chancellor of the University in support of the Men’s team. … But I have to tell you, I’m much less optimistic about the fight now that Barry is gone.
