How many Gold and Silver medals will China win in apparatus finals? … I’m guessing, all of them.

Hideous. Choreography. Montage.

Laugh out loud BRILLIANT. From nade00, Down Under.

That grotesque phase of Romanian gymnastics features prominently. … What was that about, anyway?

Facebook unFriend day

Is Facebook getting less appealing? … Do you have too many friends, for example?

Unfriend people you don’t really know on November 17th.

… Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel believes Facebook is cheapening the meaning of friendship.

“NUD is the international day when all Facebook users shall protect the sacred nature of friendship by cutting out any ‘friend fat’ on their pages occupied by people who are not truly their friends,” …

Mashable

Alternatively, HIDE people you don’t really want cluttering up your Facebook.

Or make LISTS of just those you want to follow.

Burlington Spring Cup meet

Billed as Canada’s largest meet, the Spring Cup page is now live.

May 13-15th, 2011 close to Toronto.

Two girls can compete as a ”pair” if they prefer, each doing 2 apparatus. Great idea!

Thanks Jenna Gleza.

Worlds Trampoline Finals

The 2010 World Championships was a great meet, from all reports.

METZ (FRA), FIG Office, November 13, 2010: Not a single seat was empty in the Les Arenes sports complex when the last finals of the 2010 World Championships were held. In fact, the organizers even decided to lower the draping dividing the main hall from the warm-up arena, thereby extending the seating capacity and accommodating a few of the hundreds of hopeful spectators without reservations waiting outside. …

China dominates Asian Games

THE ALL AROUND on the TEAM Final:

Guangzhou, China – Chinese gymnasts redeemed themselves from a disappointing team final at Rotterdam World Championships a month ago with a clear and superior victory at Asian Games. Japan, as expected, took the silver medal while Uzbekistan won an historic bronze medal. Despite the easy win, China suffered the melt down of Jian Yuyuan, the current World AA silver medalist, who fell on bars, beam and floor; didn’t qualify for the All Around final nor any event final in a very disappointing competition for her. Japanese star Koko Tsurumi didn’t have a good day …

coach walks out on Indian gymnastics

His team uniform didn’t fit?
A weird and sad ending to this story.

GUANGZHOU, China — India’s gymnasts at the Asian Games were left without a coach after their Russian-born mentor walked out on them, claiming team officials were racist.

Vladimir Chertkov, 51, whose year-long contract ends after the Games, left the athletes village on Sunday and returned to India after being denied permission to take part in Friday’s opening ceremony. …

Indian chef-de-mission Abhay Singh Chautala admitted there was an argument with Chertkov over the uniform for the ceremony after the Russian insisted on appearing in jeans and a T-shirt.

“Our officials told him to adhere to the dress code. When he refused, they barred him from the ceremony. …

AFP

The article is based on this TV interview.

This was the “last straw”, he says. But no matter how whack-a-doodle is the sports administration of India, I still don’t like Chertkov walking out on the team at that moment. He put himself ahead of the athletes.
