Great West Gym Fest, Idaho

The confirmation package for our 10th annual GWGF is now available.

New this season is a Prep Opt session on Sunday. And an “Oh Canada” division, something I’ve been requesting for a few years. Canadian gymnasts can compete Canadian rules at a meet in the USA. Cool. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho is close to Spokane and the Canadian border.

I just hope meet director Dave Adlard has a giant Canadian flag, as well. That little one’s not going to do. 🙂

promote Shawn Johnson’s video game

Since Shawn’s at camp, let’s promote her game. That way, she won’t need to. 🙂

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube. Link it on Facebook.

… Personally I think the new Xbox with Kinect looks better. Wii without the Wiimote.

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

Will Kinect work in the gym itself, one day?

Latin American Gymnastics site

Makarena Pinto Adamse from Chile took the Bronze on Vault at DTB.

She did great in Stuttgart, as well. Just one of the many, many gymnasts from Latin America challenging on the world scene. It’s not only Brazil any longer.

Yet, aside from Brazil, gymnasts from Latin American are still not getting the attention they deserve, .

Gymnasia Latina “is a project which opens the doors to Latin American gymnastics community to bring the best information on all your events such as news, events, results, interviews, gymnasts, technical and judges.”

In a magazine type format, it covers Artistic, Trampoline, Rhythmic and more. Facebook and Twitter links.

If you have a product to market in the Spanish speaking gymnastics world, the site offers FREE banner posting, at least for now.

Check it out in Spanish at gimnasialatina.com. Or via Google translate.

gymnast Aly Raisman

Six years ago, Alexandra ‘Aly’ Raisman walked into Brestyan’s American Gymnastics for the first time, excited to fulfill a dream.

The 10-year-old switched gyms and coaches in order to train with her idol, Alicia Sacramone.

And Mihai Brestyan, former Romanian and Israeli national team coach, could tell from the very beginning that he had a future champion on his hands. …

My opinion of Aly went way, way up after watching her so calm and solid at Worlds. Tough, durable … she looks to be a mainstay on the A team. With Alicia, Mihai may continue as the #1 male coach on the floor during team competition for USA.

I felt Aly was easily the most powerful tumbler in Rotterdam. Why is she competing double tuck when she could be doing double double?

the Li Ning gesture?

An interesting incident on the MAG awards podium at Asian Games. Lu Bo, Teng Haibin and Hisashi Mizutori.

GUANGZHOU, CHINA - NOVEMBER 15: (L-R) Silver medalist Bo Lu, Gold medalist Haibin Teng of China and Bronze medalist Hisashi Mizutori of Japan pose on the podum for the Men's All Round Individual Artistic Gymnastics at Asian Games Town Gymnasium during day three of the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 on November 15, 2010 in Guangzhou, China. … After the all-around ceremony, Teng was forced to explain a hand gesture he and Lu made on the podium, where they appeared to aim a gun at Mizutori. The two Asian powers have a long history of war and animosity.

“I would like to explain that the gesture which looks like I am using a gun is not hostile,” Teng said, explaining that the gesture is meant to symbolize the Li Ning logo.

Mizutori made the same gesture back, though he said later he was not sure what it meant.

“I thought maybe I should just go along with it, so I just did it,” Mizutori said. …

Debauve: gymnastics to power tumbling

It’s surprisingly difficult for Artistic gymnasts to make the leap to Trampoline sports.

Yet, Marine Debauve from France started tumbling less than 2yrs ago, and finished with a Bronze medal at World Championships in Metz.

FIG – Metz 2010 : former Artistic gymnast and 2003 French Champion Marine Debauve has adjusted well to the world of Tumbling.

As requoted on THE ALL AROUND:

… Marine told Le Monde: “I wanted to finish my sporting career in something fun;” …

This girl has talent. Recall that Marine was the most successful all around French female Olympian ever, 7th in Athens. And made a comeback to compete again in Beijing.

Sue Sylvester bans tater tots

We can all learn from coach Sue. Abusing her power as interim principal, last night on GLEE, she bans Tater Tots from the school cafeteria.

Righteous.

When educating athletes about nutrition, fries are a lynch pin. My advice: never order fries. … Only steal a few from friends. And ex-friends. Everything in moderation.
