Many continue to be fascinated with our Worlds Bars silver medalist. There’s a heap of new photos from Tokyo on her website.
Let’s keep this next one for when the Russian media complain about her being underscored on Vault. (Her form has actually improved since 2010.)

Great idea.
John ATKINSON – President FIG Aerobic Gymnastics Committee – is modernizing that discipline. Instead of searching for a PDF document on the FIG website, you can read and search the Aerobic Code online.
Now we need all the other FIG disciplines to do the same thing.

Head Coach Sarah Patterson:
“To be able to stand in front of 101,000 fans as national champions is what you strive for every day as both an athlete and a coach,” Sarah Patterson said. “For David and I, this was the 10th time we have received championship rings during an Alabama Football halftime, and I can tell you the feeling never gets old and that we were as excited to share this moment with this team as we were with our very first championship team in 1988.” …

Uchimura names Vitaly Scherbo the greatest male gymnast of all time, by the way.
I don’t buy that.
Scherbo has more Worlds and Olympic medals,
When he tied for the gold medal on Pommel Horse at the 1992 Olympics, that was an embarrassment. Pae Gil-Su was twice as “good”, though they got the same score. (One reason why Hardy Fink drafted the current open-ended Code.)
Scherbo was terrible on Horizontal Bar, recall, despite his high scores.
Li Ning is the only gymnast I’d rank with Uchimura.
British Olympian to be recognized next week at the BFI London Film Festival.
That’s George, top of the pyramid.

George Weedon, now 91, is the subject of a short film, Walk Tall, by Leytonstone animator Kate Sullivan which is having its premiere. …
In 1948 he came 28th out of 140 contenders and went on to compete again in Helsinki four years later. …
details on London Evening Standard
George introduced “the splits” to domestic men’s gymnastics in England. Officials tried to ban the “ladies’ movement“.
He recalls that the London organization “was a right shambles.”
Update — this is Sophie Brundish from Europa Gymnastic Club.

Artistic gymnasts are arrived in Mexico. Security is tight.
The full women’s team representing the USA in Guadalajara is:
Bridgette Caquatto, Jessie DeZiel, Brandie Jay, Shawn Johnson, Bridget Sloan, and Grace McLauglin who replaced the injured Chellsie Memmel. Team alternates are Hallie Mossett and McKenzie Wofford.
This is a totally different team than those who dominated the World Championships last week in Tokyo.
The all around favorite will likely be 2009 World All Around Champion Bridget Sloan who is at last recovered from injury, but expect Johnson to bring home a few medals from Guadalajara and continue her journey towards the 2012 London Olympics.
That’s from a preview post on Gymnastike – Shawn Johnson at the Pan American Games
