Bar – Healy progressions

The best video tutorial I’ve seen yet on this skill. By Nick Blanton.

We’ve typically mainly done mini-tramp bounce to handstand on a low Bar, into Healy. Nick’s sequence is better.

World Trampoline Champion, Paul Luxon, from Great Britain with his then fiancé, Ute Czech, German Champion. They were married in 1973. This photo, taken by Chris Ware/Getty Images in May 1973, was titled “Head in the Clouds” and was featured in “Life” Magazine.

I saw that in Trampoline Pundit Flickr Photos. A nice historical archive.

Canadian Olympic Team?

We Canucks are pretty excited for London 2012.

Right now Canada has more depth than ever before. It’s a battle to make this Olympic Team.

Here are some of the top contenders.

Baring injury, most would consider three as favourites:

• Christine Peng Peng Lee
• Kristina Vaculik
• Victoria Moors

Savona is back competing AA this weekend at Gymnix, testing her repaired knee. If she’s in shape come Trials, I don’t see how you keep that girl out of the Olympics. She’s aggressive.

Peng’s even more aggressive. Rumour is Christine might test some upgrades at Gymnix, before deciding on the final “stable” routines for London. She skipped Elite Canada for this purpose. As you know, you never know what Peng Peng will bust out. This entertaining gymnast is a UCLA commit. Miss Val can hardly wait.

Savona’s been talking to College coaches, too. One of the top still available recruits. 🙂

behind the scenes at Cirque

This new video is easily the best glimpse I’ve seen at what it’s like to join the world’s biggest circus.

It features Head Coach Boris Verkhovsky.

on Men’s College Gymnastics

I love the Men’s NCAA program. And regret not covering it more closely on this site.

But the Men’s teams do a much poorer job of communicating their stories. And there aren’t many sites following the action, providing commentary.

The best is Ron Noe on Stick It Media. Check out his most recent American MAG update:

Oklahoma (357.05) and Stanford (351.04) both hit season highs for team scores, with the Sooners compiling the nation’s best so far.

In the weekend’s top AA battle, Jake Dalton (90.5) outshined Eddie Penev (87.90). Dalton’s score is now the season’s high, and only the second score of 90.00 or above (Sam Mikulak-90.00). …

Minnesota is on a roll, as they won their sixth straight. Once again they recorded a season-high team score (347.00) in their victory over Iowa (338.20) and Brockport. …

cover girl McKayla Maroney

Our World Vault Champion is cover girl on Inside Gymnastics. Congratulations.

But will she qualify to the American Olympic team?

Three Americans successfully competed Amanar Vault at America Cup. Many feel McKayla’s odds of becoming an Olympian are now reduced, as a result.

It does seem slightly unfair. If McKayla were from Vietnam she would have already qualified to London. But because she’s from a nation that qualified a full team, there’s no guarantee we will see the World Champion at the Olympics.

Swedish Hasbeens – gymnast models

Some bizarre gymnastics imagery is included in this current promotion for footwear from Sweden.

Swedish Hasbeens was created in 2007 when founders Emy Blixt and Cecilia W Neuman decided modern shoes need more colour. Today, the brand’s retro-inspired collections can be found in 20 countries.
