This week in Rio De Janeiro, a new gymnastics training facility was opened with new equipment and facilities and multi[ple apparatus. This is all part of a big plan to prepare for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, but is of immediate benefit to the Brazilian gymnasts

Seven gymnasts have already begun training in the new structure, including;

Adrian Gomes Nunes (Gremio Nautico Union-RS), Ana Claudia Silva, Bruna Leal Yamamoto, Mariko Harumy Ethiene Franco and de Freitas (CEGIN-PR), Daniele Hypolito and Priscilla Cobello Domingues (Flamengo). Four coaches will accompany the team: Iryna Ilyashenko, Ricardo Pereira, Adriana Alves and Viviane Cardoso.

According to another article, Jade Barbosa is not yet training with this group due to some contract issues, but soon will be, the article assures readers. …

Olympian Stanescu to Canada

Love brought former Olympic gymnast Robert Stanescu to Windsor.

A member of Romania’s national team, the 27-year-old made the finals in the rings at the Beijing Olympics where he finished seventh.

The next year, he came within a whisker of reaching the podium at the world championships, finishing fourth by one-tenth of a mark.

Later in 2009, Stanescu joined his university sweetheart, Ruxandra in Windsor.

Now married, both coach gymnastics at Winstars.

Ruxandra works with the competitive girls and Robert trains the boys. …

Held in conjunction with Alberta Provincial Championships, the action is in Airdrie from April 4 – 6, 2012.

Athletes from 8 different trampoline clubs in Alberta will be competing alongside 3 Olympians including Rosie MacLennan (7th – 2008 Beijing), Jason Burnett (Silver Medalist – 2008 Beijing) and 3-Time Medalist Karen Cockburn (Bronze – 2000 Sydney, Silver – 2004 Athens, Silver – 2008 Beijing).
