I call it West Edmonton Mall Gym Club :), as it’s so close to North America’s largest shopping centre. Economy is VERY strong in Alberta, fueled by all those Petrotoxin dollars.

Vaculik, Moors, Rogers, Pegg, …

CTV Olympics:

Gymnastics Canada has announced the first four members of the Canadian Olympic women’s gymnastics team.

Kristina Vaculik of Whitby, Ont., Victoria Moors of Cambridge, Ont., Brittany Rogers of Coquitlam, B.C, and Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont. have been officially nominated to the Olympic team. …

But Rogers was a somewhat unexpected addition in the automatic nominations, as she had been trailing in the ranks before trials. …

… The final team member and the team alternate will be determined later today.

Shewfelt expects Halifax’s Ellie Black to fill the fifth team spot, and Jessica Savona of Oakville, Ont. to be named the alternate.

CTV posted a crotch shot with that page. I’ll not link in protest.

Nike celebrates Title IX

#MakeTheRules

… Nike’s new commercial celebrating the 40th anniversary of Title IX …

The ad spot honors women athletes for facing up to sexism, breaking barriers and taking on The Man (so to speak). Featuring boxer Marlen Esparza, marathoner Joan Benoit Samuelson and basketball star Lisa Leslie, the commercial cleverly revisits the dark ages of women’s athletics, when women and sports weren’t supposed to mix.

CDN Olympic Trials day 2

Good luck to all competitors in Quebec. This is it. The final chance to earn “points” enough to be named an Olympian.

Many have commented on how undistinguished are the Canadian trials compared with SHOWTIME USA in San Jose.

The sport has never yet been well marketed in Canada. Regulated by a Government monopoly, there’s not been enough incentive to monetize. USA Gymnastics doesn’t get a single tax dollar.

Friday the girls nominated to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team will be introduced at an event in Ottawa presented by Crest and Oral-B. Media are invited.

… That’s a start. 🙂
