OSU 196.725 – UCLA 196.075

Oregon State University has come back convincingly from a poor season start.

Being at home certainly made a difference for the Oregon State gymnastics team.

The No. 13 Beavers put together one of their best meets of the season, hitting 23 of 24 routines

Stambaugh won the all-around title with a personal-best score of 39.550. She claimed the floor exercise title with a 9.95 and was a co-winner with UCLA’s Lichelle Won and Vanessa Zamarripa on the uneven bars with a 9.90.

Stambaugh closed the show with a stellar floor routine to ensure victory. She just needed a solid performance after teammate Melanie Jones scored a 9.90 right before her. …

UCLA – depleted and defeated

… Looking at this team, if they were fully healthy (including Peszek and Lee), they would be a force. However, they are having to put in too many people who aren’t ready to be in lineups or shouldn’t be in lineups at all. …

There was no doubt today that this team is just Zamarripa trying to carry all the weight. They can’t let her do that. …

Note that we saw a grand total of ONE score over 9.850 from someone not named Zamarripa (Wong’s excellent bars routine). It’s disappointing to see because this team should be so much better than this.

BBS

If any team was to be featured in a Reality TV show, it should be UCLA.
