Russian Championships – Results

6. Anna Dementyeva 55.400

Not sure whether they used the Russian “bonus” system or not. Either way, Russia and Moustafina are the favourites to win European Championships 2013. At home.

AA

2. Nikita Ignatyev 87.800

… Konstantin Pluzhnikov — rumored to be seeking citizenship to compete for Azerbaijan — was absent. …

There were 51 competitors in the WAG competition and 50 in the Men’s. Healthy.

At Chinese Individual Championships 2012, I saw about 50 girls, 100 guys. Most of the World 2012 Team was excused, however.

Beth Tweddle to Dancing on Ice Final

Beth Tweddle through to final of Dancing on Ice 2013 after semi-final shock

Sure, if her feet only rarely have to touch the ice, Beth is angelic. 🙂

American Cup montage

If you don’t plan to watch the (limited) NBC coverage and/or additional routines posted by USAG on YouTube, it’s worth watching the condensed version.

One of the most interesting American Cups in some time. Some of those routines will be contending for medals at Worlds 2013.

The less said about the Men’s competition, the better. We saw surprisingly poor routines from some of the best gymnasts in the world.

Congrats to Jake Dalton. Especially for hitting Pommels.

Many coaches where I live are surviving meet-to-meet. 🙂

The working week is a REST from busy weekend competitions.

GymPOWER – Yvette Moshage

Documentary.

What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.

Yvette — like so many other gymnasts — injured ACL on competition Beam mats, despite not making a major error on landing.

After recovery, she later injured the other knee. On Beam dismount. 😦

Savona injured both knees similarly. And came back.

Yvette will do the same.

Can FIG competition mats be improved?

The road to success in gymnastics is brutal, very brutal. Thirty hours of training each week, not being able to go on nights out, always on a diet, and barely any holidays. All this for one goal; your own success.

I’m proud to have been, once again, a part of Dave Adlard’s Great West Gym Fest, easily the best gymnastics competition I know.

For 2013 I was responsible for website – GreatWestGymFest.com – and social media.

Our Facebook page was very active. But our Twitter feed nearly dead. It’s not caught on yet amongst gymnasts in the Pacific N.W.

Our best photos are posted on flickr. Most were taken by Avant Coeur coach Victoria.

I posted a number of videos, the best of which is my entry into a contest new for 2013.

Theme: The Great West Gym Fest is AWESOME.

If that video on Facebook gets the most LIKES by midnight March 24th, 2013, I’ll win $500. … And if yours is the deciding LIKE, I’ll split half with YOU.

Promise. 🙂

Gabby Jupp – Beam

Beautiful Gymnastics American Cup Highlights:

… WOW! I knew she was going to be a treat on beam and floor as I’ve had my eye on her for quite a while now, but her bars and her confidence were unexpected. You would think she was the seasoned Vanessa Ferrari and not a brand new unknown senior at her first big assignment.

She absolutely attacked her beam and bars though never sacrificing finesse or polish. Beautiful lines, fabulous toepoint, astonishing elegance. And SO underscored. …

Score: 14.433 (6.3, 8.133)

That blogger feels American Cup is still ‘scammy‘.

Simone Biles – so much POWER

Tim Daggett commented that she might be the most powerful female tumbler all time.

Yep.

Rumour is that Nastia will be replacing Elfi for NBC.
