Russia won the junior women’s competition, easily defeating Canada, Japan and France with strong performances on bars, beam and floor. Canada was the top team on vault and floor, though only sixth out of seven teams on bars. Romania, as expected, had the highest team score on beam.
β¦ Japan’s Yuki Uchiyama finished third and had the top score of the evening on bars (13.633), ahead of Romania’s Andreea Munteanu (highest beam score with 14.033) and Louise Vanhille of France.
Canada’s Heaven Latimer, sixth, was the highest home-country finisher in the junior division, but she had the top score on floor with 14.0. β¦
The competition concludes Sunday evening with the senior session and junior event finals.

Romania had only 3 competitors. According to Fangymnastics, Andreea Iridon did not get a visa for Canada. And Laura Jurca hurt her ankle during the meet.

What a great season we’re having. These were the season high scores for both teams.
Memorable night for LSU gymnastics in Tide loss:
β¦ record 8,574 fans, the largest crowd in LSU gymnastics history.
β¦ βIt felt amazing to get such a high (team) score,β Courville said. βThe loss is disappointing, but our performance was definitely not something to be upset about.β
A record $108,000 was raised for Foundation 56, former LSU linebacker Bradie Jamesβ foundation to raise money for breast cancer research.

Mincie and coach D-D Breaux were interviewed last week on GymCastic.
As much as I love her passion, the crowd appeal, the sassiness, and originality, I still don’t see that as the best Floor routine in the NCAA.
“It was just an extraordinary night of college gymnastics,” UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. “It was loud, it was rocking and both teams put up great performances.”

A revolutionary effort to shake things up in College Menβs Gymnastics took place last night in Champaign, IL.
Host Illinois took on Minnesota in the first ever Match Play format.
Carrying on with the 5-up/5-count system, each team went head-to-head on each event in Olympic order. The team behind in the score was then allowed to put their man up last, which allowed for some great strategy, since there were no set lineups. Reviews were mixed, but it certainly added some excitement, at least in the first three rotations. β¦

Sounds like two apparatus should be competed simultaneously. To save time.
For example: Floor and Pommels, Rings and Vault, P Bars and H Bar
Strategy would be even more complex. π
The “senior” competition in Montreal was good, especially Floor and Bars, but there were too many falls.
Despite FIG claiming that artistry will be more important this quadrennial, most coaches still believe that start score will (mostly) determine results. They are doing the hard routines now, hoping to stabilize them β¦ soon.
The Junior competition at Gymnix will be the highlight rotation. There are some BIG routines coming up. For example, Romania’s Andreea Munteanu on Beam.
