McEachern, Gervais to Eastern Michigan

Sydney McEachern and Natalie Gervais have been close friends and gymnastics teammates for seven years.

They’ve competed provincially and nationally together. They’ve competed in France together. And now they’re going to college together.

The duo from Springers Gymnastics Club is headed to Eastern Michigan University in the fall on full athletic scholarships. …

EMU does love Canadians. (roster)

And Steve Wilce has two new great ones coming in for 2014. I predict both will be an important part of the line-up first year.

Both are represented by Sara Gill at Gym Dynasty.

By coincidence, I was in Westwood, California in 1999, a few blocks from UCLA, for the movie premiere of Any Given Sunday. Saw Al Pacino on the red carpet.

Did you hear the story of that Beyoncé inspired leotard?

Utah misses Super 6

If there’s one thing you can bank on year-after-year, it’s that you’ll see the Utes in the Super 6 Team Championships.

Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics is the most successful competitive gymnastics league in the world. More than any other one person, credit Utah’s Greg Marsden for building what so many fans enjoy in 2013.

Championships 2014 are scheduled for Alabama. I’ll be there, for sure. 🙂

In 2015 I’d love to go back to Utah. The host for that one has not been decided, as yet.

Danusia Francis – Beam

Love that UCLA’s Danusia Francis had the guts to throw her signature skill in the Beam final.

Unfortunately she had a fall later in the routine.

Meg Stephenson – Coach of the Year

University of Minnesota women’s gymnastics head coach Meg Stephenson has been named National Coach of the Year and her coaching staff of associate head coach Jenny Hansen, assistant coach Louie Johnson and volunteer assistant Jim Stephenson were honored as Assistant Coaches of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women.

Stephenson and her staff led No. 8 Minnesota (27-9) to its first appearance at the NCAA Championships since 2002, and the Gophers wound up finishing eighth out of 12 teams with a score of 196.375 points. …
