How has training been going?

Training’s been going great! I feel like this move is definitely helping and I’m really liking this gym. [The training schedule] is different from my other gym. We go 6 days a week and focus on putting new skills in, technique, and all that. Right now, I’m working with Sarah Finnegan, Maddie Desch, Brenna Dowell, and other Level 9/10 athletes.

Did you miss the last training camp?

I had to go and have shoulder surgery so I’m in rehab now. It was an old injury so I just had to go and repair it. It’s supposed to be a 4 month recovery. We could work out on it but it’s a perfect time to fix it and I won’t have to worry about it in the years to come. This was probably the perfect time to take the time and repair it so when I do get healed up, it’s straightforward from then on. My goal is to heal up but if I’m ready to compete [for Classics and Nationals], then I will.

Triple Twist: Who are some of your role models in gymnastics? Who do you look up to?

Vanasia: In the gym I look up to Isabell Hutchins because she’s been through so much bad stuff, yet she comes in the gym everyday with a positive attitude and pushes through all the obstacles that come her way. Outside of the gym I look up to Rebecca Bross. I love the way she presents herself at competitions. She never gives up and is really mentally tough.

Triple Twist: There is video of you training a triple twisting double, was that just for fun or do you plan on competing it?

Chinese divers won all four events on the final day to sweep the 2013 FINA USA Diving Grand Prix on Sunday.

U.S. Olympic medalist Troy Dumais took silver in the 3-meter springboard behind He Chao’s 53.25 points. Dumais, who won a bronze medal in synchronized 3-meter platform at the London Olympics, said he’s not ready to focus on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games yet.

“I’m taking it a day at a time. I can’t promise anything,” Dumais said. “You don’t make money in diving, I’m sorry – it’s a hobby, it’s not a career. I have to put some energy elsewhere. The only problem is, when you do that, it takes away from your diving. It’s a balancing act.”

I’m thrilled this beautiful gymnast is heading to College gymnastics. She’s been hampered on Bars with an unusual shoulder injury over the past couple of years.

Tassilo points out that the 2000 Olympic Vault Champion did NOT compete Kasamatsu as do 99%+ of male gymnasts.

Instead, he did Tsuk.
