No.

But his competition is getting closer.

FIG:

Kohei Uchimura (Japan), the reigning Olympic Champion who has won an unprecedented three consecutive world titles, will be the man to beat in the men’s All-around competition in Antwerp but it will be difficult for anyone trying to dethrone him. Germany’s Philipp Boy and Marcel Nguyen came closest to Uchimura at the 2011 Worlds and the 2012 Olympics, but with those two as well as Olympic Bronze medallist Danell Leyva (USA) not competing it seems highly unlikely that “King Kohei” will be displaced this year. Place your bets ! …

Uncle Tim thinks Sam Mikulak is a guy who’s got enough magic to defeat Kohei on a bad day.

I’d love to see Hambuchen score 13.90 on Pommels. Then go on to be named World Champion.

But unless he falls twice, Uchimura will be World Champion. Again.

Yao Jinnan – Mo salto

Yao Jinnan is serious about doing the Mo salto in competition — the Chinese are on bars, they are fabulous, and Yao just did a full routine that included the Mo. It was pretty breathtaking as a skill, thrown casually in with a whole lot of other hard skills.

1:48 p.m.: Every single Chinese gymnast is just exquisite to watch on bars and beam. Every single one seems capable of winning either title here. Lovely moment on beam just now from Zeng Siqi — right before her dismount, she seems to blow a kiss to the crowd (and, ostensibly, the judges.) …

It’s not quite the full twisting Maloney competed by Elisabeth Seitz. Aliya catches in mixed grip (easier).

UPDATE: Grace Chiu clarified that the mixed grip does not make it a different skill that the Seitz (2011). Therefore E+D and both are flight elements. Therefore CV 0.2.

If you’re traveling to #WChAntwerp or anywhere else internationally, look closely at the REAL amount you are paying for purchases in another currency.

World traveler Dory Dynna linked to an important post on the “Dynamic Currency Conversion” (DCC) rip-off.

Bottom line: “When you are presented with the offer to pay in the currency of your card, you should ALWAYS decline.”

Many are pondering Grandi’s unofficial proposal to “reduce the number of team members from five to four gymnasts“.

Instead of 5-4-3, it would go to 4 on the team, maximum 4 compete / apparatus – 3 scores to count towards team. Maximum 2 / nation in the final.

I assume.

That would free up more spots for specialists from around the world. Especially from smaller nations.

It’s worth considering.

The old system ALMOST did not qualify Epke to London. Any gymnast who might win an Olympic medal should be in the Olympics.

Brinn Bevan – Floor

A Floor routine with some style. Some originality. 🙂

Note Brinn omits the ghastly pseudo body wave prior to the last tumbling line. He should gain +.1 for that. (Everyone else considers it compulsory.)
