Tatiana: I retired because of the bad injury I sustained at the World Championships during training. After that I thought again- is it worth continuing? I think that my fall was terrible. That is why after the competition in France I decided to retire.

Gigi: You post a lot of videos of yourself training in the gym which made a lot of fans confused about your retirement, what is the story behind these videos?

Tatiana: I am back for the Russian Championships where I will compete for my team- Saint Petersburg. About the videos- I am just doing it for fun, i don’t want to lose shape. And maybe it will help me achieve something more? …

Gigi: Now that you have retired, what are you planning to do with your life?

Tatiana: Currently beside training, I train kids. They love me. I want to be as good as the Kiryashovs were to me …

Gigi: In the vault event final at the 2010 World championships, both of your vaults were downgraded and your coaches tried to file an inquiry but it was too late. … do you feel robbed?

Tatiana: … I don’t feel I was robbed. I guess I deserved the position which they put me in.

I was proud of the Namibian girls who competed African Championships yesterday. Though having some of the lowest start scores, they looked clean, confident. Kept smiling. Kept their heads high.

Swakopmund is a beach resort town, famous for a cooler climate and adventure sport. Population 42,000.

I was invited to visit the club while on holiday, happy to find that American coach Joe Softich had been volunteering there for a couple of months, a gymnastics “vacation”.

The facilities are very basic.

Home made “channel pit”.

Training only on this outdoor vault runway, they flip Tsuk and Yurchenko.

Respect.

The club runs a charity sponsoring underprivileged children’s gymnastics.

They soon move to a huge, modern multi-sports facility.

Any MAG or WAG coach on holiday in Namibia is advised to contact the club. They might be able to provide accommodation in exchange for you volunteering to assist at the gym. For a week, a year … or longer. 🙂

Namibia and South Africa are the top tourist destinations in Africa, in my opinion. I’ve been on a gymnastics holiday here since January 16th.

2014 African Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Aerobic Gymnastics will be hosted in nearby Walvis Bay (NAM), April 30 – May 1, 2014.

They were moved to Namibia from Egypt due to the complicated political situation there.

Personal shout out to Bianca from Visions Gymnastics.

She hit 4/4 at #AfricanChamps to help her team to the win with a silver medal in the all-around.

A star. 🙂

Both Egypt and South Africa had too many falls. Yet the host nation pulled out the win. Spectators were plenty happy at the arena tonight.
