U.S. National Team

Gymternet:

In addition to the crowning of the champions, the 2014-2015 U.S. senior women’s national team was named. The team included Biles, Ross, and Nichols in addition to Alyssa Baumann, Mykayla Skinner, Amelia Hundley, Madison Kocian, Ashton Locklear, Brenna Dowell, and Madison Desch.

More may be named at a later date.

@USAGym:

Baumann, Hano, Desch, Hundley, Kocian, Locklear, Nichols + Skinner named to the Pan Am Champs team. Alt decided 24 hrs before competition.

Update from USAG:

Alyssa Baumann has withdrawn from the Pan Am Championships with an elbow hyperextension injury. Felicia Hano is her replacement.

Biles, Ross, Nichols

Kyla went 60.35 day 2. Some feel she’s over-scored, but I can live with her controlled style. I like it.

1. Simone Biles, Spring, Texas, 122.550
2. Kyla Ross, Aliso Viejo, Calif., 118.300
3. Maggie Nichols, Little Canada, Minn., 117.900
4. Alyssa Baumann, Plano, Texas, 116.100
5. MyKayla Skinner, Gilbert, Ariz., 115.450
6. Amelia Hundley, Hamilton, Ohio, 112.200
7. Madison Desch, Lenexa, Kan., 111.200
8. Macy Toronjo, Huntsville, Texas, 109.150

Factor in 0.1 bonus for stuck landing. Still, the USA should be unbeatable in Team at Worlds.

Execution scores are much higher than in China. But lower than in Russia, is my guess.

Truth in advertising.

Nice routine. But not nearly as clean as Kyla. There should have been a bigger gap.

It’s difficult to take more than 0.1 from Kyla on any one skill.

Fact is judges in 2014 are not ranking execution correctly.

Biles is Uchimura

I’m not sure anyone in the world has a chance to compete in the all-around. This tumbling is so EASY for her. 🙂

WAY over-scored on execution. People are getting swept up in Biles fever.

Score : 15.500 (6.4, 9.1)

At least that panel is being consistent. Over-scoring Ross and Skinner, as well.

“@jaredvgoad: Simone’s D-score is .1 lower, split leap 1.5 was credited as a full #PGChamps”

Dude. If you stick the mount cold, don’t do the silly looking knee bend. That’s to help cover up an over-rotation.

FIG simply has to FIX the Floor rules.

Gymternet:

Just remember that last year, Foberg didn’t qualify. We thought Laurie Hernandez’s jump from the bottom of the pile to the silver medal between 2012 and 2013 was huge, but Foberg has managed to go from missing nationals completely to winning the title. It’s completely unheard of and a testament to how mentally strong and naturally gifted she is, having upped her difficulty by several points between last year and today. …

And now, for the recap! …
